What to expect from stock tires?

you'll be really lucky to get 20,000 out of them. I've seen potenzas with 12,000 miles bald .

These new 050A tires are supposed to be slightly better than the old ones, but if you are driving them hard you aren't going to see much more than 10-12K. I usually only get 5K out of my tires as I don't do a lot of highway, and do quite a few auto-cross events.

Ouch...I think my wallet just kicked me in the rear!

That's about what I get out of my motorcycle tires, and they cost half as much. (and have half the tires)...

It's just part of sports car ownership. The guys driving the Viper ACR or Porsche GT2 have to spend neary $600 each on the rear Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires and those will typically last less than 5,000 miles (tread wear rating 80).

The flip side is they could save $250 a tire put RE050a's on it and make their ride that much squirrelier and dangerous.
