Another "Will it rub?" thread

Hey guys, I recently purchased Jamaica's (UA motorsports) Venaci wheels. The front tires need to be replaced. The Fronts are a 20x9.5 with a 0 offset. The wheels themselves stick

Default Another "Will it rub?" thread

Hey guys, I recently purchased Jamaica's (UA motorsports) Venaci wheels. The front tires need to be replaced. The Fronts are a 20x9.5 with a 0 offset. The wheels themselves stick out just a small bit, but he had a 245/35 tire. The tread sits inside the wheel well but the sidewall doesnt due to a hell of a lot of stretching. Personally, Id rather not have an extremely stretched tire so ive been looking at a 255/30 or 265/30. My front camber is currently at -.2 degrees. Factory specs allow up to -1.2. So if i were to add a wider tire(smaller sidewall) and give it some more negative camber, would i run into an extreme rubbing issue?

you should be fine if you add more camber. -1 degree camber will give you around 10mm more clearance.

If I go with a 265/30 thats 20mm wider, but yet a smaller sidewall than im currently running. If I add 1 degree negative camber (gives me 10mm of clearance) you think thatll be ok?

Go with a 255 it will require less camber and give you great traction. Remember the wider the front tire the more the car will want to "track" or wander... If you hit an always bump it will require more effort to control the steering...

on springs you need to settle down sir..lol

i wouldnt be trying to get anything to aggressive just yet until your on a coilover, im not saying you cant get by, just saying youll be alot more comfortable.

255's should be good up front with more camber. The car handles pretty well with around 1.5* of camber, without sacrificing straight line wear.

I think im going to go with 1.2* and try out the 255/30/20 . I think its going to be fine since ill be adding a full degree of negative camber and have a smaller sidewall. Thanks guys

Do you have front camber arms? When I lowered my car on swifts, the front was at max factory camber.

Well, I think you need more than 1.2* of camber to get away with the setup you want, though it depends on your setup. What're you dropped on?


For reference, this is a 255/40/18 on swifts.



I'm running 1.5* of camber up front right now.


I presume (of course) you have front camber arms...my recommendation would be about 1.5-1.9* of camber, assuming you run the car in the twisties occasionally. I found with under 1.5* of camber, you often don't have sufficient camber through turns. When I did temp readings on my tires after the dragon, I still had hotter exteriors by a significant amount, even with 1.5* of camber.

Red Zed, Im on swifts with all the ADJ suspension components. Id really like to stay within spec due to the tire wear. I dont like the idea of buying nice tires and destroying the inside of them.

Fair enough. I posted the results in the swift thread of my camber experiment. 6k on 1.5F 2.6R gave perfectly even wear.

This may or may not work for you, but it is important to understand just what causes camber wear. If you do only highway driving, 1.2 is probably the right option. If you drive hard, you will rub, and you may even get outer camber wear.

I do a lot of spirited back road driving, But am also on the highway a lot due to Z meets that I attend. Ill just have to play around with it. But im not even sure on what tire size to get yet, just based on the looks. a 255/30 is a half in shorter (1/4" top/bottom) than the 245/35 im running now. Right now my front tire is actually a few tenths taller than my rears, but it looks normal. I feel like the front tire is going to look like a rubber band compared to the rear
