Ordering my Forgestars today...

I know a few people have had some bad luck with the ordering process, but these wheels just look so good. Now my only problem is deciding what color. I was set on piano black until I saw gold ones on a pearl white:

Decisions, decisions...

I just put new tires on the stock wheels, so I'm in no hurry.

I hear you. He definitely got the shaft, and so did a few other guys on different forums. From what I've read though, it seems like Forgestar was just in over their heads with the amount of orders they received last year. I know a couple of guys (BMW drivers) who have ordered this year and have gotten their wheels within a couple months. Caravanshaka's story is by far the worst I've read though.

Chris_1 07-07-2010 06:23 PM

Piano black, Piano black, white and black go together like rice and beans haha.

I'd have to disagree on the piano black. Have you seen them in person on a white Z Chris? IMO, the glossy deep black finish kinda washes out the white since it is a pearl and not a bright solid white. The matte black helps keep the eye thinking the white is brighter and more vivid.

want to buy mine resq? :stirthepot:

Doooood...please tell me you're kidding about selling yours? I submitted my order about 4 hours ago. :gtfo2: I ended up ordering the piano black, 19x9 +24 front, 19x11 +23 rear. I know what you're saying about the glossy finish competing with the white, but I saw them on a GT-R recently and I was sold.

dlmartin81 07-07-2010 08:19 PM

Piana Black looks awesome, IMO. Picture these bad boys on a 370Z.

:werd: I love these wheels. When they finally arrive (hopefully before 2012...) I'll post some pics. Now I just need to decide what I'm going to wrap these babies in...

well, I've been thinking about selling them, yes :stirthepot:

I had piano black at first, and my second set I HAD to have matte:

Caravan... how much for the wheels?

Caravanshaka 07-07-2010 09:26 PM

lol, haven't decided for sure if I am selling them, just been contemplating lately!

dlmartin81 07-07-2010 09:38 PM

caravan - your pianos would have looked much better w/o the white pin stripe, I think.

I agree with you on that one. I'm not a big fan of pin stripes in general though. The flat black looks pretty damn good.

I agree with that as well...KillerBees Z was actually the reason I got the pinstripe on that first set. Just didn't look as good on white as it did on yellow.

Still though, the gloss was too much for the pearl white IMO

If that's the case, you're selling me yours and my piano black will be on the market, lol.

Caravanshaka 07-07-2010 09:52 PM

lol...I'm sure you could change it to matte if you wanted...but it's entirely up to you

LiquidZ 07-08-2010 09:28 AM

I'm curious to hear about your experiences with Forgestar. I am hoping that a lot of the issues people had with them were caused by the high demand.

Caravanshaka 07-08-2010 09:30 AM

well, I got a PM from someone in the past month asking for the contact info I had for them cause they had been waiting 4 months for their set....don't hold your breath just yet.

Chris_1 07-08-2010 09:34 AM

I will have to say this, I have seen ALOT of wheels in my day. Matte colors tend to look much better when they have something splitting them up from the tire. The forgestar just blends with the tire in matte, b/c its a solid wheel, no lip. When you had the gloss, had you not done the pinstripe I guarantee you would have stayed with that setup. The pinstripe on the matte wheels though, I promise would have looked WAY better. Matte is nice in the center when you have a lip, or a pinstripe to break it away from the tire, unless your going to run tire shine everyday of your life haha.

Its your car of course, but I have seen lots of wheels and I am just giving my 2 cents thats all. The car is going to look great, just be picky right now b/c you apparently have quite a wait, but it will be worth it.

Caravanshaka 07-08-2010 09:41 AM

see, I felt like I had to have tire shine MORE often with the gloss, cause it made the tires look dull and old. With the matte, if I don't do tire shine every week they just blend a little with the wheels and it doesn't look bad at all. Use tire shine and there is a nice contrast for shows.

2 different opinions on style :)

I dont knock it, I agree and I look at it like opinions are like underwear, everyone has em. I love your car, so definately didnt do wrong, its when the owner of the cars eyes go like this :eek: and he realizes uh oh, haha.

Caravanshaka 07-08-2010 10:54 AM

haha, ya that can be bad! you are right though...opinions are like ass-holes, everyones got one and hardly any of them are pretty!

ResQguy 07-23-2010 06:59 PM

So, my vendor told me they spoke to Forgestar today. According to them, my wheels should (key word being "should") be here in 2-3 weeks. Anyone want to start taking bets?

Nitex 07-23-2010 11:11 PM

^ Well thats good, i just purchased mine last night. The order went through first thing this morning. Piano 19x9 F 19x11 R. I allowed Forgestar to choose the offset, I asked for agressive fitment with a 1-1.5" drop. I plan on running RE-11's thinking 265/35 F 305/30 R, still deciding on coilovers. Have the base 18s not sure if the tmps will fit. Keep us posted im hoping Forgestar's manufacturing snafu is behind them

vividracing 07-23-2010 11:32 PM

wow those are some nice wheels! The Gold and white theme would look really good. But black and white is subtle yet sporty too. Tough One...

Nitex 07-23-2010 11:52 PM

Although i am horrible with photoshop, and the above was just done in paint.. I agree that it would have looked much better with the carbon caps and no pinstripe.

We ordered the same wheels. I got mine in a +24, +23 set up. Hope your order goes smoothly! As far as tires go, I went with Hankook Ventus, 255-35-19, 305-30-19. I debated going wider up front, but I chickened out.

ResQguy 08-16-2010 07:09 PM

Just got the call that my Forgestar's are in!!! Having the TPMS installed and the tires mounted/balanced tomorrow morning. :happydance:

res0zsfa 08-17-2010 02:21 AM

i ordered forgestars... kept telling me they were in stage 2,.... was in stage 2 for about 3 weeks den bam, they send me an email with the tracking number. i was afraid the finish would come out weird, but after inspecting it, it came out perfect. i have no regrets buying from forgestar. sucks for the unlucky ppl who have to deal with all the other scandals though.

Mozen 08-17-2010 04:58 AM

My Forgestars are at the house now, since im deployed im relying upon my brother to inspect them and take a few pics for me. I cant wait for my R&R!!!!

I got these in record time tho. I feel for others who had issues!

ChrisSlicks 08-17-2010 07:14 AM

Only issue I've had is that the center caps don't fit very tightly. First track day and the front 2 center caps are gone :) Mine are gloss black on PW but most of the time they look matte black because they are covered in brake dust. Everyone thinks it is a very aggressive looking combination.

LiquidZ 08-17-2010 08:13 AM

So it sounds like Forgestar might be turning out for the better? I assumed they became too popular, too fast, and had troubles filling orders efficiently.

Caravanshaka 08-17-2010 08:27 AM

glad to hear they are fulfilling some promises now

I hope so! i ordered mine 3.5 weeks ago. They have yet to send me any updates.

Did you purchase directly from Forgestar, or did you use a vendor? Personally, I didn't wait for them to contact me. I shot them an email every few days to see how they were coming along.

That was the same theory I had, as well. They were bombarded with orders last year, and they just couldn't keep up. I was given a quote of 6-8 weeks, and it took 7.

theDreamer 08-17-2010 09:49 AM

So you got your wheels ResQguy?
