Default my latest mod's and behind the wheel experience

With all the Mod's and driving experiences everyone has posted, I finally have some that I can add to the forum, so I won't feel so left out.

Today, I installed wheel locks, ON ALL FOUR WHEELS! Torqued 'em all down to 85 ft. lbs. Yep.

And, I sat in my 2010 Roadster and checked to see if it still has 33 miles on it, and yes, it still does. Sooooooooooo........

My owners' manual for 09 370Z coupe with sports pack ray wheels are to be torqued 80 ft/lbs of TQ. Base wheels are probably 85, not sure

I've looked several times, and I do not see anything about torque in the 2010 owners manual. Not saying it ain't there, but if it is, I have not found it. And believe me, I looked. In fact, the diagram that Ak posted is not in my manual either. It should be! That's why I posted the question to the Forum, did a google search, and ended up asking my Nissan Service Dept. for the torque specs. I know the torque is important, that's why I tried so hard to get the right one for my Roadster wheels. Now that I think of it, those are new wheels to Nissan, and the Service dept. may not really know the correct torque either.

Have any of you Roadster owners found the right wheel nut torque for the Roadster wheels?

Give or take 5 lbs won't make much difference especially if your torque wrench is a cheap one.

Well, after a little research, I downloaded the 2010 Z owners manual which is for coupe, roadster and Nismo.

It's 80 ft/lbs of torque just like 09s. Hope this helps.

Yes, I looked up that page, you're right. Why did the Service dept say 85? The extra 5 ft. pounds probably doesn't make much difference, but I am going to back them off and re-torque to 80. Thanks again Ak.

ps. couldn't they have also included that in the wheels and tires section, instead of only in the "in case of emergency" section??!!

Don't kill yourself over 5 ft/lbs. Any run-of-the-mill torque wrench has an error of about 10%. So err on the 'high' side.

Which wheel locks did you install. A lot of dealers are selling/installing the wrong ones that can cause damage to the studs/wheels.

The lugs I installed were Nissan Part Number: 999W2-JT000. Did you see the "wrong and right" wheel locks comparison that Ak Posted? He shows a photo of the wrong lock next to the correct lock, which is the 999W2-JT000.

One thing about what the owners manual regarding the lug nut torque is that they are talking about mounting the spare tire wheel, and that's pressed steel. Our wheels are forged. Would that make a difference in the torque?

The spare is also forged for the coupe, not sure about the roadster.

85 is fine (it's what I use), anywhere in the 80-90 range is perfectly acceptable for these wheels.

Thanks for the input. What ever it is, it is, but I'll bet the forged spare is universal for the Z, Coupe or Roadster, but as long as I have one, that's good enough for me.

I do not have the spare, and have been feeling very uncomfortable about it. I am going to order one from the dealer this coming week, then that will be that.

Unlike many other "generic" car models, the Z is the type of car that is too special and unique to risk having a tire/wheel problem without any suitable back-up. I wouldn't trust just anybody to safely get my Z up on a flatbed, or to (God forbid) tow it.
