prep is improtant, but more for cleanliness. All things considered, I still prefer freshly blasted wheels myself, but most people don't want to pay the extra 40 per wheel that I have to pay the blasting shop, so I usually don't do that. I actually wetsand the original finish with a sanding block and soapy water to prep them.
There is a chance the others may do it to. Since they are using a conveyer system, it seems like it would be logical that they all went into the oven one after another and cured for the same amount of time. They need to cure for a minimum of 20 minutes after the metal comes up to the 400 degree temperature, so for a wheel, its typically about an hour and a half that I have them in the oven.

Based on everything I'm hearing and seeing, I've decided to re-coat the wheels, the issue is weather I take them back to the original coater, or try someone new.
If I try someone new, I'm going to see if I can get my money back for the 1 wheel that was bad or possibly all of them, since the prep comes in to question. I'm also going to do another color, I'm not liking how it matches with the PG. I really like the Advan RS Gunmetal, or I'll just go with Black, maybe a 20% or 30% gloss, sort of a matt satin finish. I'm leaning toward the Advan gunmetal, just because my other car already is a graphite with black wheels. I wanted something a little different, plus I don't like how the black wheels blend with the car when it's dark, during the day I think they look great. Any thoughts?? Here is a quick photoshop, in the first pic you can see the rear wheels are the current color ![]()
