I changed my mind and it looks like I'll be ordering a set of the Hankooks. The reviews are very good and they came in second place last year in the Car and Driver test. They are also about half the cost of some of the other sets. With the current rebate I can get a set of four shipped for about $700.

You guys ever check out http://treadzone.com/

ZPirate 05-14-2010 07:35 AM

Pushing Tin you'll be happy with the Hankooks. I really like them. I put them on my Volk Racing wheels as soon as I got them. I'm getting ready to order a set for my 350Z too to replace the Goodyear GS D3s on it that have gotten really loud.

Lt. Dan 05-14-2010 07:50 AM

I've run the Toyo R1R's, and the Bridgestone RE-11s.... Both are AWESOME tires, but if I had to do it again, I would probably switch back to the Toyos....

The R1R's are most certainly better in the wet and lower temperatures (above freezing), but the RE-11 has more max dry grip. It's a trade off and the decision probably depends somewhat on where you live and how/where you drive.

You guys ever check out Performance Race Racing Tires online, Goodyear, Pirelli, BFGoodrich, Michelin, Yokohama, Toyo, Dunlop

Seems like a pretty lame site. When I put in the Hankook's and try to get a shipping quote it gives an error saying they will give me the shipping cost AFTER I order.

If I try the Contact Us form, then I get an error: "We're very sorry, but the system has experienced an error. Please try your request again later. ".

6MT 05-14-2010 10:55 AM

Poll is still missing the Goodyear F-1's.

m4a1mustang 05-14-2010 11:24 AM

I am running the Hankook Ventus V12s right now. My car is a street car 90% of the time and these definitely fit the bill. Hard to beat the price... Dry weather performance seems to be on par with the stock Bridgestones and wet traction is way better. Should get a little more than 18k out of them too (280 tw vs. 140).

If I do track them I will be sure to report back.

RCZ 05-14-2010 11:35 AM

Treadwear is company specifc and not comparable between different manufacturers

m4a1mustang 05-14-2010 11:40 AM

Either way, these *should* outlast the stockers.

Yeah the site isn't the best but they are cheaper than tire rack. I just gave them a call and their shipping prices are identical to Tire Rack at $16 a tire. So their price for a set of Hankooks shipped is only $686 for me.

Is that after the $50 rebate? For sizes 245/40 and 285/35, the total I saw before shipping was over $700.

Yeah I should have said that. They are all offering the same $50 rebate. For me tirerack would have been $721 shipped, after rebate. So that's still pretty substantial. I quoted a 275 size though.

Pushing_Tin 05-17-2010 11:09 PM

*FYI* my tires shipped out today so I started looking around locally to see what I was going to have to pay in order to have the old ones removed, new ones installed, balanced, TPMS service etc. Every tire/brake place was over $120, except....... my local dealer. They do it all for only $75. Of course your local dealer may be more, but it's worth giving them a call.

ChrisSlicks 05-18-2010 06:54 AM

$25-$30 a wheel is pretty common unfortunately. Some places have a "tirerack.com" rate which is closer to $15. My local shop will do them for $10 each if they are off the car, $15 otherwise.

s1 evo

Hi Guys,

I just picked up a set of Hancook S1 Evo's..

I am a bit concerned as i didn't see them in this pole. I asked for the v12 evo's but apparently the guy said the s1 evos are better..

Can anyone shed light on this? hopefully i didn't just buy a **** tire..

Cheers,

ChrisSlicks 05-21-2010 09:32 AM

Some people said the S1 was better, especially in dry conditions. However the S1 has been discontinued so check the date stamp on the tires, you may be getting old stock!

Here's how you read the date code on the tire. Tirerack - Determining the Age of a Tire

370zee 05-22-2010 01:33 AM

oh wow, thanks for that!

The build date actually shows 4206.. SO 2006!! i rang the retailer and he was like ohh must have been an error with hancook.

2006 is too old right? the tires will be dry and become hard?

His going to switch them for me on Monday after his spoken to hancook apparently.

Yeah 4 years old is a bit much for a "new" tire. Yes they are still serviceable but you are supposed to replace tires after they are 7 years old, so they certainly aren't at their prime. Believe me this kind of crap happens all the time and most people never bother to check.

Only time I buy older tires is if they are race tires because I burn them up so quickly. But I can tell the difference to the fresh ones.

370zee 05-23-2010 04:06 AM

So if he comes back to me and for any reason he can't get me a new set, is it bad to stick with these? or should they be ok? payed $2000 australian for all 4 tires so it's a bit disappointing to find this out!

I would ask for a discount and keep them on. I'm guessing your going to burn them up in about 2 years of driving.

I agree, I would keep them at 50% off, but otherwise I'd tell him to eff himself.

My Hankooks V12s will be here tomorrow, paid about $700 for all four!

cossie1600 05-23-2010 03:22 PM

I got the Hankook on my other car. It's not a bad tire, but dont expect to win anything in autox or track as they overheat way too quickly

Which model? The reviews of the V12 have been very positive from both the magazines and consumers.

cossie1600 05-23-2010 09:07 PM

V12.

I got first hand experience. The run I had after lunch break (about 1 hour) was my quickest by far. After that, the tires just got too hot (in a FWD car) to be in contention at all. This was on a 3000lbs car too, well 3200lbs with me in it.

They are no RE-11 or Star Spec if you plan to race them, but they seem to be a good affordable performance tires for the street. Oh yeah, the sidewalls are noodles on it too.

m4a1mustang 05-23-2010 09:30 PM

I ran the V12s pretty damn hard on the Dragon and Cherohala skyway this past weekend. By far the hardest I've run this car on the street and they did pretty well.

Certainly not a track day test, but for the street they did great. I think I'm going to try the RE11s next, though.

theDreamer 05-23-2010 09:44 PM

I have had mine (Hankook V12) for just under 48 hours and I would rank them above the stock RE50s for street use. I will have more impressions of them soon as I get more miles on them.

Good to hear! Keep us posted. I will post my thoughts once I run them for a few weeks too. I think we need to keep in mind that these tires can be as much as 50% cheaper than some of the others. I was pricing rear replacements at $350 or more each for the rears.

370zee 05-24-2010 06:04 AM

Yea tin we pay top dollar for these type of tires down here.. Hardly anyone runs 305's so they are not a common tire, alot of shops dont stock them and order them in.

So he came back to me today saying that hancook has no newer 305's for me and that the hancook v12s dont come in 305. He gave me hancook australia's number and i called them and they explained to me that the last 305 they do which we get access to in Australia is the s1 evo which they stopped making 305s for in 2006..
He told me my warranty will be applied from the day of invoice regardless...

I dont know what to do? If i go another brand tire - i will be looking at potentially 800$ a tyre for the 305s.

sigh =/

sorry for the late response but after the track day I should report back.

In one sentence. They are awesome.

they held quite well during the wet lap but they really came out when the track dried up. they just kept on sticking. there were certain times where I thought I would slide off the track but they just kept on going barely losing grip. I do warn you. They are extremely soft so after some laps they really get melty. :roflpuke2:

They are great. They really are the best tires I have tried yet. They even work excellent on the rain.

me too, I love them. I normally run a long life street tire, but got these for dual use as a wet weather track tire and daily driver. Haven't tracked them yet though.

chuckd05 07-10-2010 11:24 AM

Daily driver... I vote the Ventus V12s. They are great dry and wet and are much cheaper than the other alternatives. I would just support the forum and get them through Tirerack. (There's a link you have to go through on the board to get to the site).

RCZ 07-12-2010 12:13 PM

+1 on the v12 for cheap good performance daily driver tires. If you will be hitting the track occasionally, the RE11 or NT05's get my vote.

370zproject 07-12-2010 01:40 PM

Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110
