I just got the hankooks, hopefully they are better than these horrible stock tires.
|
I like the stock tires :) Wish we could get RE070s.
|
the stock tires howl way too much on the roads out here. it's vibrating things loose in my interior!

My vote goes to Bridgestone Potenza

So, those who went with RE11's - what sizes did you get? They don't seem to make the stock size.
I'm a ways off from needing new tires, but, just thinking ahead... |
One FYI that really makes no difference, but its still interesting. The NT05 is the smelliest tire ever. My friend made a joke about it the other night and it all came to me because I did not realize it before. I've walked around the car looking for something burning on the exhaust several times and found nothing. I guess they put something in the compound that smells pretty bad...its like a really pungent rubber smell.
|
can anyone running RE11's report on the wear they're getting compared to stock?

Hey RCZ, how are you finding the tread life on the NT05's?
|
Hankook ventus v12s hands down...affordable, long lasting, and good in rain. No need for my street tire to heat up and stick fast...Cars a DD I dont race it. F those $400+ a piece potenza stock tires.

My mistake, I thought you had tracked it already using the nitto's after reading the comment about the compound smell. |
Hey guys, any of you have any good ideas for RE-11 tire sizes for 18" CE28N wheels...They don't have as much variety in tire size as the NT05s...I definitely don't want to stick with the Nissan OEM size cause it's aspect ratio is 50 for 18" tires and I need a lower profile tire than that....Any Ideas????
|
just find something where the front to rear ratios are as small as possible...
|
So 255/35/18 front and 265/35/18 rear sound ok??
|
great thread hands down :tiphat:
looks like i will be going with the RE-11's...285 rear |

So those of you who are running NT05s - what sizes do you run up front / back if you have a 9.5 and a 10.5'' rims
|
Two weekends ago, I did a couple of days at Road Atlanta with my 370Z running Vok RE30's and Bridgestone RE-11's 265/305 size. All I can say is this tire gets better and better each time I use it on track. Doesn't overheat, inspires tremendous confidence and utterly predictable. Far and away my favorite "street" tire. :)

How about a separate survey for 18" UHPAS?
Some of us aren't crazy about summer treads with treadwear ratings of 140 or 160.
Last year, tirerack's alternative to Yoko Advans was the Goodyear F1 Eagle A/S. They seem to have dropped this, which ranked in the middle on their surveys. But they started carrying Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position in sizes for 18" OEM rims. Ranked higher than these are Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. I have direct experience with these on a current Acura TL, and the RE960AS (on our last TL). I'd recommend either. But my probable replacement has to be what vpn2001 is using as winter tires on 18" OEM rims: 245/45R18 Continental ExtremeContact DWS 275/40R18 Continental ExtremeContact DWS 20mm wider front, 30mm wider in back. The top-rated UHPAS from tirerack, with a treadwear 540. The tread pattern is bidirectional, meaning you can rotate left-to-right. I'd be surprised if you get the warrantied 50K on this rubber. (In fact, you should be happy to see over 30K.) OTOH, it might extend your driving season a couple extra months if you live anywhere there's precip and/or freezing. At the moment these Contis are $149ea for fronts, $201 rears (plus a "free" low-end TomTom GPS when you buy 4 from tirerack.). Often all-seasons dip in price in the spring while companies sell down inventory, then jump after August. |
Those tires should last a long time, however they will have less grip on dry pavement compared to the stock tires. If you don't really push the car in the corners and drive the car like you would the family sedan then it will work fine.

I found out this year that there will be weeks at a time when the Z doesn't go out, which means anytime there's more than 2" accumulation on the road. Supposedly you shouldn't drive summer compound tires below 50 degrees F., though I had a few highway sorties (dry pavement) in the twenties with no harm. So now I look at tire candidates more for rain handling (than the solid stuff). We've got the Acura's FWD on Michelins and a Honda Element AWD if we have to go anywhere. |

Today I installed the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. Front: 245/45-18 and rear: 275/40-18. These sizes are very close to the overall diameter of the original Advans. I was looking for a tire with a good tread wear rating and also a tire that will perform in lower temperatures. They were about $225 each at Tire Rack.

Have Toyo T1-R now and like them a lot,..but could be cause these are the widest set Ive had on a small car..
Have yokohama sports on my E55 and they are for comfort and quietness.. Bridgestone 760s are nice for the price...Check out Kumho MX due to their weight and price,..soft sidewalls tho.. My friend has Azenis and really stiff and responsive,..wear not too bad.. |
so for dd best choice would be?

Michelin Pilot sport 2 A/S plus have the highest treadwear rating of 500. These tires also stick like glue and the raod oise is much less than the OEM tires.:ughdance::driving:

After putting on about 200 miles since Friday's install of the Michelin's, I am pleased with the reduced road noise. Also, the car seems to be a bit smoother on the road bumps. Most of the interior noise now is coming from the rear. I wonder if those rear hatch vents do let a lot of noise in?

I'm very happy with this model of Michelins on our current Acura. However, I've always felt Michelins are overbuilt to accommodate heavier frame cars. They're the sort of thing you'd buy if you put 70K on turnpikes a year, in a 7-series or S-Class. Frankly, I thought they'd be overkill for a lighter vehicle -- one that's more the spiritual successor to the S2000 than anything with 4 doors. However I don't think you could go wrong with any of the top 3 in the tirerack UHPAS survey, which is: Conti DWS, these Michelins, and BT Pole Positions. If anything my eagerness to try the Contis now is more like a Goldilocks & the 3 bears move. But that bidirectional tread would have to be a clincher in a very tight field. |

Got the yokohama neova advan 08
They are great. They really are the best tires I have tried yet. They even work excellent on the rain. |
