AD08's without a DOUBT. Ran them during their press event in Vegas last year, and since then I've used nothing but AD07/AD08s on all of my cars.

GT Motoring 12-17-2009 01:09 PM

RE-11 Are amazing!!!!

j.arnaldo 12-17-2009 01:42 PM

All brands on the list are O.K. I picked the Dunlops 'cause they're "softer" on rough roads.

corner3garage 12-17-2009 02:01 PM

I have always been a Yokohama fan so i guess its kinda just a favorite pick. Regardless of that, the neovas are awesome. My second pick probably would have been the NT05 Nittos

RCZ 12-17-2009 03:48 PM

Someone talk me out of running Nitto NT05s 275/35/19 all around.

If you do, then it may very well be NT05 is stock sizes.

B1nks 12-17-2009 03:57 PM

I am running the Ventus Evo 12 from Hankook and am loving them. They are great over bumbs/rough roads, way quieter than the stock advan sports, and have great wet weather grip(haven't had any dry weather lately). I'm running SSR Type-F 19x9.5 19x10.5 with 275/35/19 305/30/19. Will probably buy these again but I really wanna try the AD08 and RE11 also but those are so expensive even in smaller sizes.

RCZ 12-17-2009 05:57 PM

From what I've seen so far (and I've been looking) everyone who tracks their car says the Hankook Evo 12 are garbage on the track, but they are a decent street tire. Everyone who doesn't track the car says its an excellent street tire. Unfortunately, I trust the track folks so at least I wont be wearing those shoes anytime soon.

What do people think about 275's all around on the stock wheels? I know its not ideal to run 275 on a 9" rim, but I've been told it will be just fine. In fact its listed everywhere as the smallest recommended wheel size for that tire. The idea of 275 all around is calling my name.

Other choices are NT05 stock sizes and RE-11 265/35 front and 285/35 rear. Thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

ChrisSlicks 12-17-2009 06:08 PM

The 275 RE-11 fits just fine up front and works well. I haven't tested the square setup though, I have the 305 on the rear. If you are going to compete in TimeAttack or similar then go with the 275's all around, otherwise the extra bite of the 305 in the rear is nice.

RCZ 12-17-2009 06:31 PM

^ I think if I go 275 all around Im gonna go with the NT05s.

well this IS a best street tire poll lol. If I could have afforded it I would have done the RE-11, just an FYI, and I would have done a 265/35 305/30.

RCZ 12-17-2009 09:42 PM

On the stock wheels? 305 is too big for a 10 IMO. Squirm isnt fun, its gonna get a little squiggly and isnt going to feel that stable. Also, I don't need such wide tires. I think I've decided to go with stock size NT05's.

I will get dedicated track tires later on :)

theDreamer 12-17-2009 09:43 PM

Report back on what you think.

RCZ 12-17-2009 09:52 PM

For sure!

I have sways to install, will get you guys before and after videos hopefully. Also stiffening up my KW's a little bit and installing spacers on the wheels. I normally don't like to do more than one change at a time to see how each thing affects the drive, but I may have to do everything together this time around. I will post picture / videos on my journal when everything is done.

FWIW the 305 on the 10" rear doesn't squirm at all, I auto-crossed on this setup the entire year. I realize you really don't need that big for the street, but it does fit and it does work!

RCZ 12-18-2009 07:56 AM

Chris, thanks for that info, it makes my decision harder, again haha. I think thought that auto-x vs track is apples and oranges. The track exposes tires to higher loads and temperatures for more extended periods of time. 15 minute sessions are very different than one minute ones. I don't doubt what you are saying is true, but you really can't argue with the laws of physics and eventually they are going to catch up to you.

265/305 is an awesome setup thought, its very very tempting, although I wouldn't really put past a 285-295 in the rear 10" rim. Next time I have to change tires, which should be in around 8-10 months, then I'll get a nice set of wide volks and do the 305's or 315.

I think the squirm is minimal because it is still such a low profile. One of the auto-x clubs I participate in we run 2+ minute runs and 5 or 6 runs in a row with a very short cool down inbetween. By the 3rd run or so I would typically spray water on the tires to cool them off to keep them in their ideal operating range. We beat on them just as hard as you would in a track session, sans the high speed loading. But with that said I do plan to run wider wheels for my track setup, probably 305 or 315 on a 11" rim. And anyways you said you wanted the best street tire not track tire, you're flip flopping, LOL.

RCZ 12-18-2009 12:08 PM

nah, im not, what I wanted wasnt necessarily the only purpose of this thread, I did it also for the benefit of all the other guys who are trying to make a decision about tires.

I know I need something a little more aggressive, but that may not be right for everyone.

ishthemienguy 12-18-2009 12:20 PM

RE 11, but they do suck in the cold so be warned.

RCZ 12-19-2009 10:20 AM

Ordered stock sized NT05. At least I'll be able to compare the two and report back that info too.

MightyBobo 12-19-2009 10:41 AM

Whoops, should have read the whole post...

Anyway, Grassroots Motorsports did a great test and comparo on what the best street tire is. If you include wet traction, the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec won, hands down.

Pity, its not made in 19" :(

RCZ 12-19-2009 11:32 AM

Yeah that wouldve been my first choice, wonder why they limit themselves to making smaller tires...

ZForce 12-19-2009 01:28 PM

Had the KDW2's on previous 350Z, they wre ok until they hit 17k and then the rumble set in. Prolly would not buy again. Replaced with Nitto INVO, very sticky..mucho liked. Still on stockers with 370Z and really like the 050 vs the 040 stockers that were on the 350Z. Without much research done on the other tires avail for the 370Z I would tend to be leaning towards the Nitto N05 or RE-11. Good thread though. subscribing

Rickey89 12-19-2009 03:54 PM

toyo proxes arent an option...

so i didnt vote

Mission accomplished if this thread helped anyone.

Which proxes?

The R1R's are there...those are proxes. Proxes isnt a model, its just a product line.

I found wet traction of the Star Specs and the RE-11's to be about equal, traction was good enough to win a couple of wet event auto-x's outright. They did aqua plane a little if there were large puddles of standing water though.

ahh i see i see, i dont know which model i just recently read my eurotuner magazine, i have a subscription there because of my previous car and they did a tire review, they rated them as best for grip but i didnt pay enough attention i guess thats apparent by my not knowing which model

i have now voted for the r1r's

RCZ 12-20-2009 07:38 PM

cool ^

after all the research I did and from asking very reputable sources, I picked the NT05 on the poll. Cool to see a tie between the RE11 and the PS2's. I need to try ps2's someday.

1slow370 01-17-2010 03:09 AM

I picked the NT05's, burned through the stock ones in 10,000 miles and it was time for an upgrade. I only wish they made the Nt05 in 255/35 and 285/30 for the one size wider on the stock wheels.
