I used spray cans on mine and everything is working out perfectly. However, Mike is right PC'ing your wheels is much more durable... I took my time and painted mine right.

Steps:
 Clean Wheel! Clean it GOOD!
Get Scotchbright and scuff the wheel finish inside and out.
 Clean the wheel again
 Inspect and repeat as necessary
a: Tape up wheel as desired
1st coat of automotive primer (I prefer grey)
2nd coat of primer (thicker than the first)
Inspect the wheel again and let it fully dry
Make any clean ups as necessary in primer
Make sure clear of dust and dirt
1st light coat of satin black
 let it dry
2nd thicker coat (let it fully dry)
 Final coat of satin black
When Dry apply 1st light coat of satin clear
when almost dry take a painters cotton cloth and lightly wipe down the wheel
 repeat one more time
let the rim fully dry and inspect it
 make changes as needed...

It took me over 6 hours to do 4 wheels... lets just say the next day I could barely walk from being bent over lol

I used Automotive Primer and Satin Spray paint and clear
