RE-71R - the RE-11 replacement.
the RE-11 which I recently fell in love with is being replaced (still being produced though) by the new RE-71R. I guess its a remake of the old oem tire developed for the Porsche 959.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....Potenza+RE-71R I've been trying to find info on them but most places say they wont have any in until march 1st at the earliest. I found a 3 part youtube vid with the creator. part 1

I was thinking about trying these but the biggest they are available in are 275/35/19 our OEM sizes. I wanted to continue running my 265/305 setup I recently switched to. anyone have ideas or opinions on this new tire? just figured id post to get some general discussion going about them. |
No 305?
I just re-did my fronts with RE-11 so hopefully in a year or so when I do all 4 at the same time either the RE-11 is still around or this new model can cover the full RE-11 line. |
Looking at photos, these look like they are directional and can be swapped left/right to help last a little longer.

my hope is that the RE-71R does well and next year they expand the size range. i'd like to try them in 265/305 combo |
I posted asking about them a couple of weeks ago and found a video where the pictures say a thousand words since I dont speak Japanese.
http://www.the370z.com/wheels-tires/...es-anyone.html I will be putting them on my car as soon as they are available though. The specs look amazing. |

I would buy them if they had the sizes I wanted. I really like the prices well that's comparing 245/275 RE-71 vs 265/305 RE-11 but it's only a $90 difference. |
I've got a spare set of sport rims. Maybe I should just run a square set up with rears and 275 tires

I just run stock sizes as I'm NA and no where near reaching the performance grip limits of the tires on corners. I have spun out on a corner a few times in the past but I don't do that anymore. |

i'm NA as well and there was a noticeable difference in the grip when going slightly wider with my tire selection. |
They should be available now.
http://i.imgur.com/hQPtmWn.png I might give them a try since I'll be ordering wheels soon. |

for now i'll just stick with RE-11s |
The design looks alot like the Dunlop Direzza ZII.

My thoughts as well. I'm hoping these will yield similar lateral grip levels while being able to sustain the weight of the Z. The Star Specs aren't that great on heavy cars. Sent from my phone |

POTENZA史上最速のストリートラジアル 「POTENZA RE-71R」新発売 | ニュースリリース | *式会社ブリヂストン but from what i can tell these are a step above the RE-11 from the test graphs and numbers. as well as in a video i saw they were running them on a GT-R R34 and it was tearing the track up. the creator said the best part about the tires are that they give the grip of a track tire but do not need to be heated to a high temp to get that grip. |

These might get chewed up on ours just like the Star Specs. Maybe a new improved compound will yield different/better results. |
Im late to the game here... but I will be very sad if the Re11's go away. They are the only tire I have been running for years. Go through one set a season. lol

this past year was my first set of RE-11s and im sad i didn't use them sooner. |

This should make for an interesting year. I plan on using these for DD and track, haha. Sent from my phone |
For anyone on the stock sport rays I really recommend the 275/35 square setup. I run hankook rs3's in this size and it really transformed the handling of the car without even adjusting any suspension dynamics.

also in their class they had the lowest handling rating of the tires tested. |
Yet they've been used by tons of national competitive autocross guys to win events? I mean, it depends on how you're comparing them. Overall when you add comfort, road noise, etc they may not be the best. When you're talking overall dry grip, the RS3 is incredible. The RE-11 from what I've been told has always had excellent dry grip, although not quite as good as the RS3, but with better overall road manners.
|
RS3s have substantially more lateral grip than the PSS and more than the RE11 when they are up to temperature. The PSS isn't in the same league of track performance and ability to withstand high temperatures.

And for an update, I wasn't going to get the RE71 in time so I settled for RE11.
Track sizes have limited availability during this time of year. Sent from my phone |

got real worried on the dragon when I felt the should of my one front tire roll when diving into a big turn. sidenote: I was thinking of the V12 tires. those blow donkey balls. the RS3 V2 different story. |
that article doesnt specifically say that they are RE11 replacements.
they state the re71r's are made for dry traction and achieves improved lap times by improving lateral hold during high speed cornering vs RE11's. RE11's work well in dry or wet conditions. dat said, RE71R are not replacements for RE11A's... so i thinks. so i hopes... :ugh: |
plus, i never liked running non-asymmetric tires on cars like the Z and G where there is large amounts of programmed negative camber by design.
not that i have any say to wat ishibashi-san wants to do. :ugh: |
