Default Do I need a tune??

Hey guys, Im sure there are threads similar to this on the forum, but to be honest everyone has different parts. So I'm wondering whether or not my parts list would require a tune. I currently have Top Secret intakes and a Fast Intentions 18" exhaust (don't know if that matters) and am planning in installed Fast Intentions LTH very soon as well as Z1s Plenum mod. Will I need a tune after the new parts are installed, what if I just go with the headers for awhile?

Honestly, I got a tune when I had intakes only and noticed a significant different in throttle response alone. Fan control is good, too, if you are in a hot climate. If you have the $$ for a tune, I would recommend one as soon as your schedule allows. Then you can update it as you add mods

For intake and exhaust, the consensus is you don't absolutely need one, but you will be better off and should see decent gains depending on the ones you get. Adding headers and the intake plenum, you will definitely want to have it tuned.

A tune is all about dialing in the car. While Nissan does a pretty good job (there is little/no hp gains tuning a stock NA Z), there are definitely some things a tune can improve from the start. Not to mention it will take advantage of those bolt-ons much better than the stock tune. I'm of the mindset that anything to improve my driving experience is a good thing (I don't really care about #'s). My tune did just that, so I'm quite happy

While some of you know that I received a good deal for being my tuner's first stock Z to drive tune, I now understand the cost of a tune. Down the road, when I do more mods (exhaust, intake plenum, etc...), I am ready and willing to shell out the money for proper tuning. I suspect I will wind up using the same tuner, even though some have been having communication problems with him - I have the option of scheduling a time to drive my car to him instead of e-tuning.

You live in Austin, why wouldn't you just take it to UpRev? Unless that's the tuner left unnamed.

Because I didn't go with UpRev (see sig). At the time, I wasn't even looking for a tune (after all, I was stock except intakes). But I came across an opportunity to get one at very little cost to me, so I jumped on it. I don't have a problem giving the name of the tuner, I just didn't think it would be relevant to the thread. The disclaimer was more to explain that while I got my tune very cheap, I now have more insight into what's involved in tuning - I would pay full price for a tune without question now, whereas before I never would have considered a tune until my mods made it necessary.

To the OP, yes I would advise a tune after the LTH & intake manifold.
Things to also consider while they are adjusting your tune includes, fan speed on/off, VVEL if they are capable.

Since you are modding, getting better control of the radiator fans alone is worth the cost of a tune (not a bad idea for a stock setup, as hot as these cars run).

Plus you need a tune to get the most out of any mods. Why pay for a mod and only get a fraction of what it can do?

IMNSHO, you'd be crazy not to get a tune.

Just the fan tables and the throttle tables are worth the tune. Any power you gain is a bonus. And while you may only gain a few hp at peak, there's a lot of area under the curve improvements.
