So because they re-write the core software that runs on the ECU, basically just using the ECU as a computer to run their own operating system on, they can use the various inputs and outputs however they want.

So if they want to use one of the outputs that might have been for something not needed any longer (like some sensor or solenoid that can be eliminated, EVAP or some such, I dunno), to control a boost solenoid, they can.

Oh, and there may actually be inputs and outputs that are available on the ECU, but not wired to anything at all in the stock config, so they can make a change to the harness and use those inputs for other purposes, like boost control.

This is basically my understanding of how it works.

It makes perfect sense once you add a solenoid to the equation. I was thinking they were trying to control boost purely with the ECU. Thanks for clearing that up.

fwiw, the "retasking" of the ECU's I/O is also how the flex fuel option works. They simply tie in a gas to ethanol ratio sensor mounted in the fuel line to the ECU and make timing and fueling adjustments based on the exact ratio running through the line.

Depends on the set up. For me it would be crucial as I will want one for my nitrous and one for everyday driving.

Very true...yep there is no one size fits all!

Will this be as effective as an aftermarket boost controller?

Baring some unsolvable limitation, I don't see why it couldn't be.

far more so, simply because of the resolution of the tables.

Will it allow peak boost to be set in each gear? pleasepleaseplease

Because it won't be hard coded into the ECU it will be up to the tuner to set this up.

We've done boost control several different ways using custom maps on GTR and BRZ with great success.

Per Gear Boost Control is super Simple with custom maps.. just gotta think outside the box

ECU Based Traction Control stuff is also pretty awesome

Im super pumped that I get to take over a year's worth of custom RaceRom maps work and stick in in the 370Z - this is really going to change EVERYTHING.

Well, that seals it for me. I'll be making the switch. I'm just not going to be the test car for FI.

Let me see if I can twist Ron's arm in Houston.
I am almost ready to make the jump, but want to fix a few things first and install TP before I do a re-tune.

Guys thank for the feedback....I'm all in!

visconti 06-13-2013 09:50 PM

No Problem

Hotrodz 06-13-2013 11:16 PM

Okay, I do have one last question....what about the need for a wide band, is this also programmable through the ECU?
