Default Can i un-UpRev?

Hi,

Tinking of getting uprev done. However, as my car is still under warranty, wondering if i can undo the uprev and send it back to the dealer non-the-wiser if i do have some engine fault...

Dealer in my country is quite particular about car being stock to honor warranty issues.

Thanks for any info..

Yes, Just take it back to the tuner to save the tune along with the Lic on ecu.

If you're going in for regular service they shouldn't be plugging into OBD port.

If you're having electronic gremlins? Then definitely take it to the tuner so they can put the stock map back on the ecu, and remove the uPrev tune

So does it mean that uprev doesnt write any permanent code into the ecu of the car?

Meaning, when i truck in the car, there might be a error code that says the ecu has been "tampered" with before..

I do value the 3 years of warranty left ...

Thats correct, Only if the dealer plugs into it with the uPrev tune still there they'll know the ecu map has been altered.

If you have a cel I'd find out what it is and talk to the tuner first since they could also reset it if its just a glitch from a hcf or something.

I've heard that the dealer can see a last "flashed" date but I can't confirm that 100%. Seems reasonable to think that they would be able to tell when the ECU ROM was edited.

In theory though they won't be able to prove you had a tune.

probably not a date value as the ecm would need to have some method to know the correct date (e.g. via GPS or RDS) which isn't an option on every vehicle... it probably keeps a count of the number times it's been flashed though and an abnormal ecm flash count would indicate some sort of tampering.

This may be a dumb question, but if you disconnect the battery (like many do for winter storage), does the Uprev Tune get erased??

No, the UpRev replaces the stock tune on your car. I guess its like rewriting the hardware. When you unplug your computer do you lose all your saved info?

i doubt they would check unless asked by nissan.

for example, say your uprev tune increases the rev limiter by 500 and then the engine is damaged when the new increased rev limit is reached. you reflash back to stock and take it in. dealership finds nothing out of the ordinary but nissan asks for an ecu dump for failure analysis. if this ecu flashed count is kept, they can match the reported number to your service history. a mismatch would then be considered a red flag.

You can flash back to stock easily. Nissan can usually tell based on the last 1k of usage though.

One more question regarding tuning. If the Nismo model has most of its "additional HP" from the tune it has, would getting an uprev tune not add much HP, but make the car drive better?? or would it still benefit 10 - 15 whp from the Uprev tune like other models?? Curious..

Uprev lets you save up to 5 maps on the ECU that you can switch between correct? My question is say map 1 was your tune and map 2 was a stock map, could you just switch it over to the stock map or would you have to remove uprev all together?
