I did a read of my AFR with the Cobb AP and it was something like 14.7 idle and in the 12s when WOT. From what Ive been told that is about spot on.

8-10 degrees above ambient for my intake temps.

240 G/S intake with the K&Ns drop ins and stock boxes.

canned tune from AAM.

Interested in this, but probably going FI this summer, leaning toward Stillen, but GTM is still in the mix.

Drove in the NASA Texas Shootout HPDE this past weekend at TWS. It was a hoot.

My Z has the Berk HFC's, Stillen CBE, Stillen Gen3 CAI's, Modshack DIY oil cooler, H&R V1 10mm fr/15mm r spacers and not the least a Cobb AP tune for the mod's I have. The Z performed great! My rpm range was smooth up to 7K+ and very responsive and smooth through the entire usable range (much better than stock). The main issues I had are with the brakes and body roll. The OEM brake pads are to soft causing tire scrub in the corners. I hope to replace them with Carbotech XP10 fr/XP8 r pads (ordered) and the Relentless Auto free floating rotors (being offered as a group buy on this forum). I have a set of the Stillen Sways that I will install. The Bridgestone R050's are good for street but I think leave a bit to be desired on the track (they really make a lot of tire confetti). I have a second set of sport 19" Rays with the OEM tires and when the budget allows will be going with Nitto 05's.

The order of the cars in the picture, though really neat, did not last very long. The Porsche GT3 and the Corvette prepped Z06 did make me want to check if my car had stopped after they passed. However I did finish the last event with my Z's head held high as the Z06 broke and the GT3 needed to plow some fields.

All in all the Z is a very predictable and responsive car for the track (and street). I'm looking forward to the next track event.

Now if someone can show how to stop missing the 5th to 4th shift winding up going into 2nd. The SRM can wind up the RPM's.

Thanks to the forum sponsors with what they bring to our Z's. A special thanks to AAM Competition for the mos maps they offer. They make all the mods work together.

looked like you had fun! are you lowered on springs/coilovers?

gpa7pk 04-29-2010 05:54 AM

It was/is fun. My Z's suspension is stock for now. Will be going with the Stillen sways soon.

+1 rep for having the nutz to race with stock suspension and - horrors - stock brakes after all the nightmare scenarios with brake failure............

But I was aware of the errors in my ways. Some of the corrections are now in the pipeline. I'm hoping the RA rotors work out soon with the group buy.

Springs/coilovers are in the next budget cycle.

So how exactly do you hook up the Accessport to the ECU? It must be pretty trivial because I haven't been able to find any information/pictures for this.

You plug it into the OBDll port under the driver side dash and centered by the steering wheel. Easy operation but RTFM.

Ah cool, definitely sounds easy enough.

Just trying to decide if it is worth getting it if these are the only mods I'm getting/have:
FI HFC + CBE, NST Pulley kit, and K&N Drop-ins.

And if I do, should I get the custom tune, or just use the supplied map?

I decided to pull the trigger on the Canned AAM Competition tune. I installed the tune via the Cobb AP two days ago after work. The car feels like its running better in every way.

After adding the HFC and CBE my Z felt sluggish in the low RPM range loss of torque. That has been corrected big time, a lot more hp/tq in the mid and low RPM range. I have the auto and have noticed quicker shift response much smoother engine sounds at any RPM but very smooth at the top 6000-7500 where it use to sound a bit harsh. Every gear seems more useful again due to more hp/tq in the mid and low end.

For those with the 370z 7AT this is a must have if you have bolted on the HFC or Test and CBE. An unexpected plus is the downshifting when in Manual mode. The car use to shift very hard into 2nd then 1st when coming up to a stop sign (Letting the car downshift on its own in Manual Mode). I don’t feel this anymore just nice downshift no abrupt gear change. The Cobb Access Port is a great device loving the data monitoring and performance monitoring; I can finally see what my car is actually doing!

So the Canned tune is specifically from AAM? Does Cobb themselves not have one yet still? I know it isn't up on their site.

No performance maps (Staged Maps) from Cobb yet. Funny how the company that makes the Access port for the 370z still has no maps for it. :shakes head:

The only Cobb AP Canned tune that I know of is the AAM Competition tune. And to be honest I bet it will still be better then the Cobb Staged tunes when they do come out. I believe the 350z reviews I have read about the staged maps are that they run too rich at WOT. But if they can tweak the VVEL which is what they say is the hold up maybe their tune will perform pretty well. Either way its only $100.00 more for the AAM Competition Canned tune and it is definitely worth it! Plus when Cobb finally gets their maps done for the 370z you can download those as well.

Alrighty, sounds good. I'll look into picking one up when my FI CBE and HFC's are closer to shipping.
