Did I get a good tune?!

I purchased my first ever Z about a month ago. It's a 2010 touring with the sport pkg (100% stock). since my purchase I've installed Stillen G3, invidia test pipes

Default Did I get a good tune?!

I purchased my first ever Z about a month ago. It's a 2010 touring with the sport pkg (100% stock). since my purchase I've installed Stillen G3, invidia test pipes and CBA. I traveled 5+ hours to get my uprev tune. My first pull was the baseline with my bolt ons without the tune. It was 304hp. Here's where it gets confusing for me. After several more pulls and the uprev is complete..... My final number is 308? So I paid 750 license plus tune for 4 more hp? Can that be right?

It's very possible. The tune is more about maximizing your mods and having a better driving car, not really about peak power. How is the throttle response? How does the car feel? I wouldn't get caught up in the actual numbers.

It seem throttle response is better. I know shifting is a little better. 3rd gear shifts so fast compared to the others. But that's about it. So it seems that I really didn't need a tune after the bolt ons. Seems as the ecu did its job pre uprev per the hp gains

Tuning has never been about peak gains. How much area under the curve did you pick up?

Throttle response improvement by itself makes a tune worth it IMO.

But as Chuck mentions, you're not looking for max power with the tune. You're looking for improvement throughout the power range. For example, from your dyno graph it looks like you picked up a significant amount (30 ft-lbs) of torque around 2K(?) RPMS as compared to the stock tune.

Post a pic of the entire graph, and not just the numbers.

Thanks for the replies. My next set of bolt ons are pulley kit and z1 mani then retune. After much debate in going to skip the headers due to the cost/headache for the Hp. I will say this about my current set up. My 1/8 time with just the stillen G3 was 9.00. After other bolt ons and a tune I ran 8.55 spinning in 1st and 2nd. I did see an improvement there.

Looks like a slight increase in torque from 3K-3500. Overall torque increase of a few points too. Was it worth $750? Good question.

Here's your graph.


Some years ago I made some changes on my concours 1400. Before graph is with secondary butterflies installed, w/out tune. After graph is with them removed + tune. Both with a slip on exhaust.

Gained upward of 12 ft lb at the low end and a good 20hp on the top end. The ride home was ..... interesting.

Here's what I've got going next. Nst pulley kit will be here today and my z1 intake manifold (upper) will be here Friday. I've scheduled a tune for oct 8. I'll make the 5+ hr run to the Dallas area again but this time I've scheduled another tuner shop. The shop I used the first time cater the the big boys with deep pockets! My pockets aren't that deep!

Send the NST pulley back. They break. The only pulley you should run would be an ATI damper, and that's a reliability mod, not a power mod.

After reading up I think I may be ok. Looks like a lot of the failed pulleys were the first design.

Good luck. If it fails, hopefully it doesn't kill the motor. It's a risk for the 5whp you may get out of it. If I were you, I'd stay stock (or ATI) and save the money for gears. You'll actually feel a difference after the gears.

Or, if you've got a 6MT, save the money for the inevitable failed CSC, and throw a lightweight flywheel in at the same time. It'll make a hell of a lot more difference than a pulley.
