Track seats for a DD?

I spent this weekend at Sebring and the faster I get the more my back hurts when I get home from trying to keep myself in the seat. I messed it up years ago but it rarely gives me trouble until I go to the track so I'm looking for advise for a seat that will help hold me but that also isn't just ridiculous for DD, I know one seat isn't going to be perfect at both. Anyone know of a seat that can do both DD and track well?

Curious of the '15 Nismo Recaro would work, and if they bolt in to the regular cars?

I would think they would but I bet it would be stupid expensive.

For the 350Z, I have 4 bolts and a wire/connector to hold the OEM seat in.

I got a 4pt roll-bar/harness bar installed. Sparco fixed seat attached to a beefy seat-mount. The seat mount also has 4 of my 6pt harnesses attached.. the other 2 are on the roll bar.

Disconnect battery, remove OEM seat, install race seat, re-connect battery. I deal with the battery so I don't have to deal with the air-bag light.

Done tracking, repeat procedure to reinstall OEM seat.

You get good at it, takes 10-15mins to swap them out start to finish.

(that doesn't address your question specifically.. but it is an option)

I'm planning on the bride eurosters. They have side bolsters to hold you snugly around turns but just a flat bottom which is ideal for us bigger guys

I can see you're serious about your track-work, so you need to invest in a proper race seat with head side restraints.

At the very least you need to be using a 5 point harness and probably a HANS device as well, so a proper track-capable seat is NOT going to do double-duty.

I'm with thekinn who removes his OEM seat and installs the race seat for track days.

The quickest of the Z34's in Melbourne (down-under) does exactly that - he pulls his OEM seat and installs a race seat for club-sprint days - it was originally fixed, but now that his eldest son is driving the car as well, he's had to make a slider for it.

Seating base position is still around an inch lower than OEM so that will help with CoG a bit as well.

If you do not yet have a harness bar, you probably need to consider it (PM me if you want some options).

It sounds like you;ve reached the point where you are going hard enough to warrant a proper seat that the belts hold you well into, rather than something you sit on and slide around.

A proper seat is worth lap time because your full attention is n the track and not bracing yourself.

Some good seat options come from Sparco, OMP, Recaro and there are no doubt other options. I;d stick with an FIA certified seat for HANS compatibility. It is not a cheap investment but it is like investing in a good helmet ... if you have a cheap head - buy cheap helmet. Once lap times start getting serious, the margin for error reduces and the more protection you invest in, the better as far as I am concerned.

I wouldn't DD the majority of the aftermarket seats out there. I wouldn't give up my side airbags, plus I am far more confident of the crashworthiness of the OEMs.

Thanks for the info guys, I hadn't considered changing seat for track days but that sounds like my best option to have the best of both worlds.

Do you do the seatbelt lock trick? Move your seat pretty far back and pull on the seatbelt hard so it locks. Hold the seat belt so it stays locked and move your seat up and voila, it is super snug.

I use a cg lock on mine and it works great.
