With the exception of the 2 seater part, sounds like an M5 to me.

The E39 was a purpose-built chassis? Wow...that's news to me. I didn't know a mid-'90s 528i was a sports-car. Next time you see a clueless soccer-mom driving one, say "Hey! Nice sports-car!"

The M5 is a performance luxury-sedan. Of course, how a car is classified and what defines a "sports-car" is a never-ending discussion due to its highly subjective nature. Thankfully, the traits I cited above make for the most widely accepted guidelines.

If an M5 is a sports-car, then so is a 300C SRT-8 with a manual swapped in. Or a G8. Or a Cayenne GTS.

If I am not mistaken anytime you M-package any BMW you always get performance boosting additions to include suspension. 300C SRT-8 is what just a HP boost and some cool paint jobs and decals. along with the G8-GXP

I would say a SRT treatment brings the same level of upgrades as M for BMW. New engine, brakes, suspension, body-work, wheels/tires, interior, etc.

Actually, what you should have made bold was the top priority part.

If BMW's balance OR driving dynamics don't qualify for this, WHAT THE HELL DOES?
You can't just build a car, and THEN decide to make it handle. That's where the honda ricers are screwing up.
And by your definitions, most Ferrari's won't fit, nor a CCX, nor an F1. A porsche is mid/rear engined... and are FAMOUS for making people lose it in the corners.
A Viper.. I've never seen one complete a track day without a MAJOR failure. Plus.. 8.4Liters, but 600horsepower? BMW gets 500 out of 5!

You talked down on "Honda ricers" and went on to mention HP/L in the same post.

Can I have a few minutes of my life back?

Here's the actual dictionary definition...

Quote:
Main Entry: sports car
Function: noun
Date: 1928
: a low small usually 2-passenger automobile designed for quick response, easy maneuverability, and high-speed driving
... but there's a saying that best describes the definition of sports car:

"Ask 5 different people the definition of sports car and you'll get 5 different answers"
