Phunk,
What about running two OEM pumps? The second one using the OEM location on the other side that right hand drive cars use. Have a switch that turns on the secondary pump during track days. Can you just "T" into the existing fuel line? Would this totally screw with the fuel pressure? |

People have been asking me that for years with the 350z!
RHD and LHD cars all have the fuel pump on the same side. The other flange on the other side of the tank is for the secondary level sensor. You COULD mount a second fuel pump module in there if you wanted. Its not a very reliable system. Fuel pumps will die rather quickly when run dry. As the fuel level gets lower and lower, one or the other pump is going to be starving more and more. I would expect to kill a fuel pump before the end of the day. But up until that happening, you probably wont have much issue with fuel starvation until 1/4 tank or so. |

Worse case I'm going to swap the OEM pump to the other side since most of the tracks in socal run CW. ![]() Last edited by AnthonyD1978; 03-18-2015 at 09:57 AM. |

Well, I'll throw it out there:
I ordered me some fuel cell foam - spend 1 hr working on placing it where I think its needed most and got everything back together. It may not work - if it doesn't, I'm out $14 and a bloody knuckle. Now its time to head to the track. |

It must at least contribute some. Anything that reduces sloshes by any amount is going to reduce the occurrence even if it doesnt solve it. Nothing is going to work 100% without multiple pickups or secondary containment & buffer volume (such as our RRP). But I bet just screwing around in the tank some here and there, there is probably quite a bit of improvement at the very least that could be accomplished.

Robert,
Did you make sure that it doesn't interfere with the fuel level reader? Also when at the gas pump it may say your full, but can actually take more gas if you wait for it to settle in the tank. Not sure...just some thoughts. |

What I was doing is overfilling the tank and any excess was being poured into the charcoal canister thus saturating it. Once the canister becomes saturated is useless and can cost as much as $800 for some vehicles.

Anthony:
Funny you mention the fuel level reader. One of my pieces of foam moved and interfered with my drivers side level indicator, which messed up the law of averages and left me on the side of the highway last night at 3 am. WTG. On a positive note - I fixed it in about 12 minutes today and got a bit of a workout in last night while walking. The foam does not seem to have any effect on filling. I've put two tanks in without issue. I will continue to have to experiment with this. and find the right angles and placement. I'm 75% sure I'll be opening up this gas tank 133 more times. I do agree with Phunk, that it will probably not solve the issue for the last remaining bit of fuel, BUT it is working. The current setup I have will NOT allow fuel to flow to one side of the tank or the other at a rapid rate, so slalom or chicane style turns will become safer. I have yet to test it out on a 95 mph sweeper - and probably wont until I can get somewhere SAFE and way off the beaten path of traffic. I do have a track event come May, so if I don't test the sweeper by then, I'll test it in May. I plan on making foam and tool with me to the track to preform more testing. I did create a mockup of our tank and installed some foam just to watch how it worked. Pretty cool stuff. One side of the tank can be completely turbulent and the other is hardly wavy. This is positive improvement. I think if your sweeping turn is less than 3 seconds long, the foam may work out well. To be continued... Last edited by Robert Yuras; 03-18-2015 at 06:33 PM. |

Robert,
Great update and sorry to hear you got stranded! Curious to where you are actually placing the foam in the tank. I would think that just putting on the middle hump would keep the fuel from sloshing to the other side at a rapid rate. Not sure how you would keep the foam in that one location though as your driving. You would really have to sandwich it in there tight to keep it from moving, but that would have to added benefit of making the foam very dense and help with the anti-slosh effect....but maybe too dense? Mr. nismo, I was more concerned with under filling the tank with the foam in there. |
