I would give it 2 days, but it could probably be done in one session with some determination.

Mike 01-30-2014 05:45 PM

I think it took me about 5-6 hours. BUT, I didn't use the CJM wiring or relay, as I already had one installed in that area from when I had an aftermarket amp

Rusty 01-31-2014 08:35 PM

When I did mine. I took 2 days being careful. Now I could do it in a day. It's best to take your seats out. Gives you MORE room. ;)

Need a little help

Guys, need a little help on this install. It's something I could probably do myself, but given my work schedule and other commitments over the next few months I just don't want to take it on.

I was going to have the GTR mech at my dealership do the work, but the dealership recently sold and I don't want to get involved in that mess right now.

So, a buddy of mine said he'd take it on for me in the near term with access to a lift. He used to build and repair helicopters in the military and he's helped me out on tougher car jobs in the past, I trust him completely, a lot more than frankly almost anyone in the car area. Anyway, the problem is he usually won't let me pay him fairly for his work and if I'm not there to be involved it's hard for me to judge time, etc. I HATE haggling with him to INCREASE the price when he does help me. I would like to get him $$ equivalent to what I would have paid Nissan, or at the very least an indy for the install.

For those that have paid a 3rd party for the install, would you mind sharing here, or via PM what you paid? That would go a long way to helping me be fair with him. Thanks in advance.

martin82 02-21-2014 06:46 PM

Mine should be fully installed by now! Thanks again Phunk!!

I did it myself, and it took about 6 hours. I already had the interior stripped and did not reinstall it though. I would say that if you have a street car with interior, it will take him 8 hours, or a full day to do it. base what you pay him on that. Its not a difficult job, just time consuming.

Basically in your situation I'd assume 8 hours of decent labor, whatever you think those hours are worth to that guy.

andy_meng1024 03-04-2014 03:29 AM

Is this still available to purchase? I sent a PM and got no response for almost a month...

phunk 03-04-2014 09:49 PM

I will PM you back right now.

phunk 03-06-2014 04:04 PM

Has anyone running this product experienced a hard start issue? I have not had any reported to me. I have a recent installation where the owner is having issues of occasional hard starting.. taking several cranks to start and then running fine after starting.

I currently suspect this as a pressure side leak between the RRP and stock filter/regulator housing.

But before chasing it, I wanted to double check that nobody else is experiencing any issues that were not reported to me.

Rusty 03-06-2014 04:29 PM

Mine has been great. Unless you count the time the hose came off inside the tank. :shakes head:

takjak2 03-06-2014 10:51 PM

No issues

SS_Firehawk 03-06-2014 10:57 PM

I'm slightly afraid to tackle this myself... I should hopefully be getting mine in a few weeks. I've been a broke d!ck and Phunk's had incredible patience. I might have to reach out to the local Z crew for help on it.

phunk 03-08-2014 04:34 PM

What are some of the automotive projects you have tackled yourself? Knowing this would help us determine if you should be able to handle this one trouble free

phunk 03-08-2014 04:37 PM

I regret to have to make an unfortunate announcement about the RRP.

We have discovered the hard way, that the RRP will NOT currently fit in the G37 fuel tank. The G37 fuel tank is about 1.5" inches shallower, at least, the specific G37 we discovered on. If I am made aware before hand, modification CAN be made before shipping if a G37 owner wishes to have the RRP. However, I would have to ask that the customer take about 30 minutes of their time to confirm a tank depth on their exact car for me. The G cars come in a few variations, and without having one of each here, I cannot confirm tank depths myself. It is also REQUIRED that the G car is using the 370z style fuel sending unit (even though its a slightly shorter variant), and NOT the 350z style sending unit. The 350z fuel sending unit has internal plumbing that cannot be intercepted for use with the RRP.

Are the measurements something that could be accomplished during a normal fuel pump install? I'm assisting on a G37 turbo install and if all you need are a few measurements I can't imagine it being an issue to get them.

phunk 03-08-2014 06:09 PM

Yup, with the fuel pump out to be upgraded for the kit install, the dimension could be taken. However, I think that I am going to ask all G37 customers to get me this dimension for their car if they want the RRP, unless I can find reference to all the G37 fuel tanks being the same. But I do not believe that to be the case. It shouldnt be much trouble because the dimension can easily be measured by lifting just the level sensor out on the driver side. I suspect about a 15 minute job really. Plus, I am not sure if there will even be another G37 to desire it.

Chuck33079 03-08-2014 06:11 PM

Ok. If you want me to check for you it's no problem. It'll be a month or so. Just let me know exactly what to measure if you want me to check while I'm in there.

phunk 03-08-2014 06:17 PM

Thanks

wstar 03-08-2014 07:50 PM

It might be interesting to look through Infiniti's parts catalogs for various options/years. Won't give you the depth, but might tell you there are N types of tanks and which options/years have matching tanks.

That's a damn good idea. At least you'll know how many variations are out there.

chops 03-08-2014 10:23 PM

good god, i wish this was cheaper. probably lost 5-10 seconds hitting fuel starve 2-3x per lap at buttonwillow today.

martin82 03-08-2014 11:48 PM

It's a must in SoCal since we pretty much run cw everywhere!! If you don't have the rrp fix then u must fill up after each session. I can't wait to test this out

FL 4Motion 04-06-2014 06:45 PM

Picking the car up tomorrow from our mech. :excited: had to update my sig... :)

Daytona at the end of the week will first test, can't wait for wife's positive feedback.

phunk 04-06-2014 07:01 PM

I think that makes 2 installs this weekend! I saw on RAD's facebook that they were installing one Friday I think.

2011 Nismo#91 04-07-2014 12:01 PM

Had mine installed Saturday at RAD. Drove it till 1 dot with no issue. Took a full day to install but definitely worth it.

If ur payin someone anywhere from 350-500 will prob take them 4-5 hrs if they never did it before. Either way make sure they do a flat rate vs hrly

2011 Nismo#91 04-21-2014 10:19 AM

IMO Budget for 6hrs of time and don't bring a full tank of gas in your car.

Run your gas as low as you can. Remove your seats for more room.

Or be like me and forget and drop off your car with about a 1/2 a tank to your mech and get this face :shakes head:

:icon17:

martin82 04-22-2014 06:16 PM

I really hate to bump this old thread, but...

There are 6 of these units available right now.

ALSO... I am curious for any official feedback from those who purchased in this second batch and have had an opportunity to test on the track.

KF365 06-18-2014 04:40 AM

Hi Phunk
This has been one of the best track mods I have done, Totally solves the turn right problem.
I have been able to run right down to one light on the fuel gauge with no issues.
So even down under here in Australia with the driver on the other side of the car it is a great mod.
Had a few issues with the install which I did myself but really happy to report that Phunk was quick to reply and always helpful.
Great product great backup, happily recommend to all
Cheers
k

I would love to test it for you at the end of this month but, still on the MOD short list for now. In addition to the fuel starve I figured I could shed abour 65lbs by starting my session at just over 1/4 tank instead of 7/8 of a tank. Im pretty sure that reduction is enough to feel and see in track times:tup:
