Everyone is allowed differential upgrades and suspension upgrades... Sways / bushings etc
Brakes : we are allowed going up 5% on front rotor diameter from the oem 370z rotor and to upgrade to any alum 2 piece 4 piston front caliper. We "upgrade" to the oem
350Z rear caliper.

That front bar is CRAZY!

Dwnshift 10-16-2012 04:53 PM

I am asking for an even larger one ;) buuut

Yeah but for all practical purposes you guys are on same width tires. They get an inch more up front on car that is heavily front weight biased. They have same width rear with 120 ft lbs more torque! Ouch!

/yawn

gomer_110 10-16-2012 08:32 PM

Dwnshift, any word on whether you guys will be at the Daytona race in Jan.?

Dwnshift 10-16-2012 09:52 PM

Yes their 120lbs more of tq is a real disadvantage for them.
;)
We shall see... we are working on a couple things that could make it really interesting.

.....Double yawn. Hope this is more than all big talk we have heard all season. Man you guys should consider politics! I want to see product developments and results. We haven't seen much of anything yet? Don't get me wrong I think 370z is winning platform just not sure Doran team is maximizing it yet? Please prove me wrong! That would make me very happy but I lost faith in your efforts early in the season. Hope the super secret mods do something to attain actual results next year! ... Unfortunately I doubt we will see much more than mixed results and hey we were gaining etc. racing is all about winning. No wins no glory.

I hate to say it but seems like you guys have driving talent why not go with 997 4 liter Porsche? With fast drivers that car has better chance of winning?

dastaco 10-17-2012 01:20 AM

I see Shamu is back to his forum trolling ways. Thank god someone has the stones to tell the professionals how they should be racing...:screwy:

Did you ever look at actual results? ...just saying. Remember these are endurance races. They're driving car much harder and taking more chances than consistent winners in the series. I attribute limited success to great driving than to the 370z. And still have yet to see commercially available products come from this series? just was hoping we rank amatuers would get some table scraps. Oh well it's still fun to watch a 370z in the grand am field. I don't fault Doran Team. I had higer expectations for them and Nissan in this series. Sorry just saying what I feel. I still wish them well and hope they do better next year! If 370z is such a ringer why are no other teams in Grand Am going with this car? Just wondering? If well regarded team like Doran can't get this car in winners circle I'm sure others look at that and go with other cars? I'm probably way off base but I wonder about this. Is it lack of factory support compared to other cars?

Dwnshift 10-17-2012 07:44 AM

Actually the Porsche had a very big advantage over the other cars in the field this year.
When a series put over 200 lbs on a car throughout the year... And it still maintains a competitive edge...perhaps that was "the car" to have.
Grand Am has a very difficult job trying to maintain a level playing field between all the manufactures.
Shamu.... You would be hard pressed to find anyone out there that wants a W with this program more than myself..... And there are a looooooot of people behind us.
As far as super secret developments... There are lots of things and ideas we have on how to make our platform better... faster ... or more efficient.
I am not always in the position to let you know what these things are.... Just the way it is.... Sorry.
This was really considered a developmental year for the project and racing takes many things to go your way on any given weekend.
They obviously didn't go our way this year by the competitors knew every weekend ....we were a car and team to watch out for.
Guess we just have to wait and see what the future holds.

Shamu 10-17-2012 08:25 AM

Best of luck! I'm just impatient. Would love to see 1 or 2 commercially available Motorsports parts come from all money that has been poured into this by Nissan. And maybe one winners circle next year? I just don't know if its possible?

djtodd 10-17-2012 08:37 AM

I have no doubt we'll see commercially available parts as a result of their efforts. I personally laid hands on some pretty amazing finished products @ Znats.

Perhaps you should have come out :)

Not beat a dead horse.... But I we had the budget ... That most of the other GS competitors we ran against.... things could be really good.
For what we had... I believe we showed very well.... this was noticed by those that had given us the opportunity.
At the end of the day... It's not about producing after market parts... It's about building up /maintaining brand interest and excitement.

Just scrap your DP program and pour all that money into the Z. :rofl2:

Dwnshift 10-17-2012 07:31 PM

Let's just see what happens.

AutoX Z 10-17-2012 07:49 PM

Any idea which races yall are planning on hitting next season? If you make it down to Austin I would love to stop by and see the car/chat.

Will they improve the race car this year?

You take it on faith, you take it to the heart,

but the WAAAAIIIITING is the hardest part :roflpuke2::roflpuke2::roflpuke2:

Dwnshift 10-19-2012 01:00 PM

We have a list of things we would like to improve on for 2013.
Lots of little things here and there....and not all of it is hp/tq related.

thekinn 10-25-2012 08:16 PM

370Z going to a new Grand-Am GX class in 2013? sorry if this is old news but -

GRAND-AM Announces Eligibility List For New GX Class

gomer_110 10-25-2012 08:51 PM

Saw that too. Guessing the GX class rules will allow for more modifications than GS. Hoping somebody fields a GX class Z. I'd much rather watch a Z run for 24 hrs straight than just 2.5 hrs. Rolex 24 here we come. :excited:

Dwnshift 10-25-2012 09:17 PM

Don't get to excited about a Z in GX.
As it looks right now it's ink a 1 year class ... But It's all in the air.
When the merger happens in 2013 they may combine GX with FIA and current Rolex GT cars as one class.
To invest $$ into a car for a possible 1 deal may not be in the cards.
I think that is Grand Am just throwing cars out there that could be eligible for GX.... Which was a class created for Mazda to compete in.
But again.... Who knows.

HKYStormFront 10-25-2012 09:21 PM

i'll throw $20 in the pot for GX class :stirthepot:

Unfortunately this is kind of what I figured. After the merger was announced, I was really wondering why anyone would bother with the GX class for it's short 1 yr life.

Seriously, Grand-Am needs to hurry up and get the classing figured out for 2014 and on. :shakes head:

Dustin@Z1 10-26-2012 09:18 AM

Wow everyone was on B.J. quick about the GX class announcement. LOL. I emailed him immediatly when I saw it posted on the Grand-AM FB page.

Dwnshift 10-26-2012 08:32 PM

Well they came up with GX really quick... And it was really designed so that Mazda could come back and compete as the rx8 has gone bye bye.
Then the merger happened and everything is up in the air.
The rules package for 2014 or at least the exact classes is to be announced at or before the 24 hours of Daytona in January.
To race the Z in GX .... a new car would have to be made , tested and developed ...this equates to $$$$$$$.
I can say this.... There is hope for something. Stay tuned
;)

Mike 10-26-2012 09:22 PM

As long as you are racing, I don't care what class

Shamu 10-28-2012 12:03 PM

Lol! From lightest car in class to heaviest! Smallest displacement to largest. Ouch! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. That sucks!

BRZ will be interesting. Will they need to make BRZ super light to run competitive with Cayman and Z or will Z and Cayman have restrictor plates and have to run super heavy?

Mazda with turbo diesel in a car to be determined? Mx5 diesel? Or Mazda 3? ....Argh

Ditch the Z and get a Leaf as they will probably treat you better since this appears to be the politically correct class now.
