Skeen just impressed the hell out of the SPEED TV guys. RIght after the restart the announcers were laughing and excited about the pass he pulled.

The announcers are rooting for him and telling other drivers to get out of his way.

SPEED2's coverage is HILARIOUS. These guys are editing and filming mostly. They are cutting up, cracking jokes, complaining. So much better than the actual broadcast.

takjak2 09-08-2012 06:15 PM

Watching live timing. It is clear the Z has the speed (has been), and there is still lots of time left in this race. Go Z go!

Dustin@Z1 09-08-2012 06:18 PM

Unfortunately for the ST Skull Candy Altima team...one of the two fielded cars just wrecked out. Wreck coming into turn 1 shunting the Altima off course. Hate to see any NISSAN powered car wrecked out.

Dustin@Z1 09-08-2012 06:33 PM

One caution right after the other...welcome to the Grand-AM Bumper Cars @ Laguna Seca. Caution number 9 O_o !

Skeen up to 6th!

Dustin@Z1 09-08-2012 06:45 PM

Well luck of the draw and unfortunately DORAN had a good go. Skeen was able to fight up to 5th again before Caution #10 saw Skeen and Plumb get together.

Skeen was able to lump the car back to the pits. Light damage from what the monitors are showing. Skeen took 4 tires. Light damage to the fascia.

HKYStormFront 09-08-2012 07:07 PM

exciting finish! wish the 370 had been up front though :( what happened with the bimmer? in the replay it looked like he got loose in front of skeen and then skeen bumped him (presumably) by accident?

Dustin@Z1 09-08-2012 07:11 PM

Good race BJ and Mike. Hate that it ended the way it did. Had all of us here at Z1 up and down enjoying the race.

Dwnshift 09-09-2012 12:03 AM

Had a great run of it today.
Man what an adventure.

Dwnshift 09-09-2012 10:20 AM

Looks like we were pretty competitive at Laguna after all.... Unless running in the top 5.... Top 3.... Leading..... Marching through the field back into the top 5.... Falling to last and finishing 6 .... Isn't competitive.
Fastest lap of the weekend was in quali 1:35.5
We chased some setup stuff and got a little turned around. And from what we learned... If we would have had 1 more session.... I really strongly believe we have a target area for the platform that works very well.
34's for quali aren't out of the question.
;)
Just saying
So that is pretty much a wraaaap for the 2012 year.
Looks like we will be bringing the 370Z RC to the Z1 Barber event ;)
Plans are already underway for 2013 so stay tuned and we shall see what happens.
Thanks again for all the support from the Z community. This year has been quite the adventure..... And the next will be even better.
Cheers
Dwnshift
;)

HKYStormFront 09-09-2012 10:31 AM

regardless of the results, congrats on a great season overall BJ (and team)! see y'all in a few weeks at barber :hello:

Dwnshift 09-09-2012 11:40 AM

Sounds great.....
I have a feeling if we get the RC on track down there ....
It will go muuuuuuuuuch faster than it did way back in March.
;)

b1adesofcha0s 09-09-2012 11:54 AM

Congrats on a great season guys, hope you come back even stronger next year

ChrisSlicks 09-09-2012 12:29 PM

Shamu 09-09-2012 05:18 PM

With a few more HP, a second car and some more driving talent like Bryan you guys might see a podium finish next season!

DCNISMO 09-09-2012 07:56 PM

Great!! Now start making parts for us!!! Control arms and derlin bushings!!

Races aired 9/16 at 1:30 pm on Speed

Zdar 09-17-2012 11:01 PM

Awesome!

wstar 09-18-2012 12:56 AM

Damn, Mike's got some skills in that video! Especially some of the late-braking passes are just insane. Great shot starting around 11:20 on a braking pass.

sig11 09-18-2012 10:14 AM

That race was silly with the cautions...

HKYStormFront 09-18-2012 01:54 PM

plus one^

Agreed he is great driver. He has ability to anticipate moves. He guards his position well to with those inside corner entries too.

BJ: Now that you have some downtime for the off-season, clean out your PM folder so some of us can send you a personal note!!

Dwnshift 10-04-2012 05:35 PM

;)
Nice meeting you today.
Came back this afternoon for a plant tour.... Very impressive

As posted by DJTodd on one of the 2012 Z Nationals posts. Here is a brief clip of the B.J. in the DORAN 370Z on track doing a fly by. AWESOME sounding exhaust. Nearly blew my pathetic speakers on my desktop cranking it up!

sig11 10-15-2012 09:10 AM

WANT.

Wish I could have made it to ZNats. ;/ Oh well... only 7 months to ZdayZ.

SolidRed370Z 10-15-2012 10:16 AM

Damn that guy can drive. Does anyone know the specs on the 370z?

maybe we should skip zdayz minus track day and do ZNats+track day. Although... I can understand the lure of the 3 day binge - but my fix is the track now.

Know what you mean... the track is my drug of choice... my biggest conflict with Znats is that it's at harvest time when I go help dad. Not that ZdayZ is much better... but ZdayZ time has mostly been too wet to work in recent years. :P

At least that was the base...
Allowed modifications are here: http://www.grand-am.com/Portals/0/Im...egulations.pdf

djtodd 10-15-2012 11:34 PM

Engine-wise I don't know how much they've done, if any. The suspension components they are running are impressive.

Edit: Wow! Just looked at the list of permitted mods for the chevy's and fords vs the list of allowed mods for the 370z.
Basically you can rebuild the entire camaro or mustang (minus the engine), and for the 370 you can....upgrade the stock brakes, use adjustable arms, and swap for HR heads.

That's Because otherwise the z would win too much...can't have that happen now ...

Dwnshift 10-16-2012 07:54 AM

The Z is allowed a lot of upgrades in the GS class.... Being the smallest NA engine.
We are also the lightest car...which helps big time when the tracks get hot.
Doran Racing really began this project after our first race at Barber after we got crushed by a Mustang in turn 1 of the race.
Engine wise : we have removed all the oem wiring and electronics and run the Grand am spec Bosch Motorsport ecu.
We run our own intake and are allowed a full exhaust system. Grand am has approved camshafts as well and a dry sump system.
Suspension wise we are still working on it to make it even better.....always
;)

Remember the mustang and Camaro are penalized heavily with weight and power restrictions. They also have to run same size tires as the Z at much higher weight. Organizers have been equalizing all the cars. These restrictions aren't well published to general public.

Also the motors in 370s that run GS are more than HR headed VQ motors typically. They have very expensive engine management systems, racing brake systems, racing cooling systems, suspension upgrades, rear dif and LSD upgrades, oiling upgrades, etc. yep pretty much completely rebuilt car. Don't forget Doran started with a $150k racing car version of 370z and still had to make major mods to be competitive.

Dwnshift 10-16-2012 09:14 AM

Actually they all have 275 front and rear tires as we are only allowed 245 front and 275 rear.
They make about 120+ lbs of tq to the wheels more than us.
Everyone is allowed differential upgrades and suspension upgrades... Sways / bushings etc
Brakes : we are allowed going up 5% on front rotor diameter from the oem 370z rotor and to upgrade to any alum 2 piece 4 piston front caliper. We "upgrade" to the oem
350Z rear caliper.

HKYStormFront 10-16-2012 03:31 PM
