Default 370z at SCCA National Championships

I'm here at Road America, volunteering on the corner stations, when what I see is a 370z on the track, in T2. He didn't look too fast, and looking at the qualifying results, he was a few seconds off the front. I think he qualified 22nd out 24. The setup looked a little weird too, like the rear end was too low. Regardless, it is nice to finally see one of these at the track. Race is tomorrow.

I'm back after a day, and the guy didn't even make the first lap. I don't know what happened, but when he came by me (at 11, aka Kink), he didn't have an exhaust pipe and was moving at 1/3 speed. Not a good showing.

Default 370Z at SCCA Runoffs

Sorry about the lack of response regarding the 370Z at the runoffs. It was a great time even if the results were way less than expected or desired. FYI the Z was "brand new" and we had a decision to take it even though it had not been on the track before. Lots of small issues but with extreamly limited track time it was impossible to complete all concerns. For the record, we did not loose exhaust pipe, was just VERY QUIET due to fail safe mode...On Thursday we recorded a 134.7 MPH at the turn 5 trap, during the first race lap; a blistering 61MPH...I expect much different results with additional track time and development. I will post additional progress as this next season starts in February. Thanks for your interest!
PS; Thanks for helping out working the corners!

So did you figure out what caused the limp mode in the race?

Thanks for campaigning the new car, hope you are more successful next year.

Yes we did; the brake switch...intelegent brake system communicates with ECU and when you have a WOT and brake application, the limp mode is activated. Heck of a way to learn, but very encouraged by the limited laps we did have.

Season starts in February, can not wait for revenge! Will have it out for a few track days to be sure we have all the details worked out.

It isn't actually limp mode, it's a power cut mode - and it is far worse! It seems to be tied in through the brake light fuse, you should be able to cut the signal to the ECU without messing up the brake lights. You can pull the brake light fuse but that's probably not a good thing for wheel to wheel racing.

Yeah, I race and work. Have been doing the runoffs for 20 years, too much fun. Plan to run it in 2 years. I could have sworn your exhaust (maybe muffler or tips), was missing when you came by. Either way, next year is a whole new year.

Yes, I had that same problem at the Natl Z Convention and it kept me out of the track day. 15% throttle max.

We have the same problems with the 350's. There are several easy DIY fixes. Not sure if I am allowed to link to the site, but you could probably find them on a google search.

Good Luck in 2011!

There aren't any stupid linking restrictions or obfuscations here last I checked. Link away.

Guys, can anyone link me these DIY fixes for 'limp' or 'power cut' modes?

Sounds like something that could potentially ruin a track day.
