It got to 260 degrees about half way through then didn't budge for the other half. Then also, on the cool down laps it would get back down to about 220-230 fairly quickly.

What was the ambient temperature that day?

high of 76 degrees.

ChrisSlicks 03-30-2009 01:52 PM

If it gets hotter do you think the oil cooler will hold up, or do you think you might need to move up a size?

Thanks for the info, very exciting :excited:

Judging by how it pegged at 260 and then wouldn't get any hotter, I would think that we will be ok. We'll find out this summer. If it can survive a Vegas track day in the summer, it can survive anything. :)

Shameless plug!!LOL

Quite a few oil coolers will work in this case....obviously you added more VOLUME , correct? And what about oil weight and type???

Bye the way . Good job!

Yeah, thats the good news. Most oil coolers should work! Of course volume was added, thats pretty much common sense. In the case of the Mishimoto cooler, it added 1 quart. And for the oil, I used Royal Purple 5w30. :)

A lot of good info here

alan93rsa 04-19-2009 09:06 PM

Friday at Mid-Ohio I hit 275F in 5 laps. 2 warm-up, 2 traffic with the last lap clear it hit 275. I quit at that point. I've begun putting my parts list together for my oil cooler.

On the plus side the car felt pretty good with only the Eibach springs and Hotchkis bars.

RCZ 04-19-2009 10:17 PM

Did you try the car without the springs and bars? I mean tracked it?

alan93rsa 04-20-2009 12:28 PM

Yes, I had the Eibach springs and Hotchkis bars on the car. It didn't handle bad at all. For a basically stock car that didn't pound on you I was happy.

I let Dave Schardt from Forgeline take it out and thought the car has a lot of potential.

Alignment after the install:

Left Front Camber -1.8
Right Front Camber -1.6
Left Caster 5.3
Right Caster 5.0
Left Front Toe 0.00"
Right Front Toe 0.00"
Left Rear Camber -2.7
Right Rear Camber -2.6 (Couldn't get more positive out of the rear camber)
Left Rear Toe 0.05"
Right Rear Toe 0.04"

sensi09 04-20-2009 12:51 PM

^Good info Alan, but I think RCZ was asking if the springs and bars made a big difference compared to stock.

alan93rsa 04-20-2009 02:58 PM

I never drove the car on the track stock. On the street the ride seemed a bit softer over the small bumps.

The front bar has no adjustment and the rear has three points. I had it set a the softest setting for the rear. On stock tires the car felt fairly neutral. I'm sure a little over-steer could be dialed in.

Next up will be the oil cooler, exhaust, intake and R compounds.

RCZ 04-21-2009 09:04 PM

R comps so soon?

I personally think R Comps should be one of the last things you do because they take the car to a level where you think you are going fast, but the tires are doing all the work... Only once I am able to get the most performance, when I know I the only thing holding me back are the tires, thats when I go to slicks.

Thats me though, you may have a different opinion and way of doing things.

Thanks for letting us know about your setup too.

travisjb 04-21-2009 09:50 PM

I agree re holding off on the slicks until the rest is dialed in... I may even do 3-4 more events before switching to r888s

alan93rsa 04-22-2009 09:35 AM

After 21 years of tracking a number of cars I've come to the belief that once I've taken the car out for an initial run I might as well start building a data set on what it is that I plan to use on a regular basis. I have way more experience on Hoosiers than anything else.

However, I do understand the views of Travis and RCZ. I'm sure that one would get a better understanding of what the car can do in a relatively stock form. After the switch the gap could be better gaged. On a side note, I was impressed with the stock tires.

I plan to order my oil cooler parts in the next day or so and get busy on that front. Still trying to decided if I want to remote mount the oil filter and go with a Canton Meca unit. Of course the left front fender is a great place for a small Accusump.

I'd like to make the NNJR PCA event at Mid-Ohio in early June. If not that I'll be at my clubs PCA event at Putnam in July. I might still be on the Stock tires by then if I don't step up the pace in my garage.

Hey all, I just launched a survey on oil overheating on a separate thread... figured I'd plug it here... please fill it out whether you've had the issue or not

Had my first full track day at Miller Motorsports Park yesterday--had a blast! Terrible heat issues though, and outdoor temps only ranged from low 70s to low 90s throughout the day. We're at 4400 ft altitude, so air density is about 15% low here, and it's quite dry.

I kept the car 3/4 full to full, so no fuel starvation issues, but I had awful issues with the lack of an oil cooler. I went 1 1/2 hard laps and had already broke 280F. I was expecting to get a lot more out of it! Once I hit that soft limiter I immediately dialed it way back, typically going part instead of full throttle and shifting at 5500 RPM for the remainder of all four 20 minute sessions. I never hit the 290F mark, but even doing that I always hit 280 after several laps. Time for an oil change, and before next track day, time for an oil cooler.

Oh, and by design, most of that 40lb stereo in my sig comes out in about 2 minutes, so it sat by the side of the track with my spare tire :)
