Yes, you absolutely have to turn VDC off to use the full potential of the car at auto-x. The VDC is programmed to prevent you from slipping and sliding which you have to do to a certain extent in order to be quick. Besides that it is the best time to learn how to handle your car without a computer nanny, i.e. when there is nothing to crash into.
As for the speed limit, yes, SCCA has speed standards written into the rules, nothing new. Most courses top out at 60-65 mph and corners are rarely greater than 40 mph. Independent auto-x clubs don't have to follow these rules and will simply use what they feel is safe and prudent for the site. One event I went to we had 75-80 mph sweepers which was interesting, but typical speeds are below that. |
