Who's ready for AutoX season??

:hello: I am. Koni's installed, new wheels will be ready next week. Test & Tune's around the area start next month and I'm doing EVO school in March.

I'm stock piling parts now getting ready. Should have my konis installed soon as well.

j-rho 01-24-2015 12:50 PM

Last of the key parts for the STR build should be here next week.

Not sure how fast I'll be, but the car should be fun to drive!

As soon as mine gets back from getting a axle seal replaced (under warranty of course) then I will be starting my prep. We have our test and tune and autox school on the last sat in March with the first event that Sunday. I won't have the money for dedicated wheels and tires so I will be rocking my PSS's again. Makes it more fun!

gomer_110 01-25-2015 03:49 PM

No where near close to being ready. Still need to order shocks, springs, and other suspension goodies along with install, corner weighting, and alignment. Luckily the season doesn't start until late April up here.

PharmDZ 01-25-2015 10:58 PM

I'm in for a retune (after my momentum headers and motordyne ART pipes) and corner balance/alignment with RT Tuning. I'm also waiting on my two-piece rear rotors from Z1 still. Trying to think of what tires I'll be buying next to replace my R888 and/or Hoosier A6's. Seriously considering a set of 295/30r19 A6's square. I have 315 rears now on a used set I picked up, but they'd be way too damn expensive to replace.

From my experience last season the car is a lot happier on 315's than 295's. Just hope they hurry up and release the A7 in a 315/30-18 soon. By the looks of it on tirerack.com's website, the A6's in that size are getting harder to come by.

cruzthepug 01-27-2015 06:21 AM

Now I'm officially signed up for Evo Phase II school in March. Still waiting on the TVR/TAC schedule to be released to decide if I want to stay and do the Challenge School on Sunday. Since I'm wanting to race for points this year if there is a event on Sunday, I'll come home and race. :driving:

danegrey 01-27-2015 08:49 AM

Just going to go and drive, no prep,
have to learn still not right foot all the time...
once that, will look at prep

go,go,go, oh no turn......

03threefiftyz 01-27-2015 08:23 PM

350 is retired...so I will just be bouncing around doing a few events here and there.

Ugh the 315's are so pricey... I would love if they came out with better sizing for the 18's though. I have an extra set of sport rays I bought with used A6's and I'm running those down to the cords and maybe flipping the rims for cheap to help pay for new tires. Meanwhile I still have my 275 square RS3 setup on my stock Rays and R888 275 square on Enkei PF01's that'll need replacing soon. Just stumped on what to do with tires for this season.

My car has been relegated to daily driver duties only, I'm racing a STU 350Z this year.

First local event is already in the books (Thank you SoCal weather :icon17:): Final Results - Autocross Sunday #1 Hosted by the Board - Sun 01-18-2015

The STU field locally here in SoCal is nuts this year, and with Bryan Heitkotter buying Brian Peters' car to run in STU as well, national events are going to be even crazier. I was very happy to narrowly take the win, especially considering it was the first event out for the car with a majority of the go-fast parts installed (including a diff installed the day before).

Car owner Mark DeShon has done an amazing job building the car, and I can't wait for the next event in two weeks to see how the changes he's making effect the balance. We were really struggling with rear grip at this event, there's still a ton of performance to find.

Looks like the 370 in BS held its own against the S2k's

My F14's should be ready this week with V2 RS3's. Are you doing 275's or 285's?

I still need to order suspension. I looked at tire rack and saw that their tires aren't showing an available date until late April:

Size: 275/35ZR19
Sidewall Style: Blackwall
Serv. Desc: 96W
UTQG: 200 A A Price: $320.00 (each)
Estimated Availability: 04/30/15
Shipping Cost/Delivery Date
Qty:
Tire Rack Road Hazard Protection Included
($25.04 value. Exclusions apply.)
Set of 4: $1,280.00

Guess I'll be on last seasons ZII's until then lol.

PharmDZ 01-28-2015 09:07 PM

Just ordered Nitto NT01's to replace my R888 which do double duty for AutoX and HPDE. I use them when I can't find anyone to bring my Hoosier A6's down for me. Instead of going 275 square I decided to go a little meatier out back with 275/40r18 front and 305/35r18 rears. Hopefully the stagger doesn't mess with my setup too much! I guess with all the adjustability I have with the KW coils and adjustable camber arms I can help dial out under steer anyways ough, right?

Drove the car to work today. It scraped EVERYWHERE. Paint lines dividing lanes scraped the exhaust system and the new bug splat on the front bumper must have been when I rear-ended a spider.

But seriously, the car is low, not sure what I'm going to do about it. It has a 2-finger "gap" already. The front air deflectors are 1.25" above the ground, exhaust system is about the same.

Looks kinda cool though.

I ran my car is B stock last month... Pretty much just showed up and drove to get a baseline feel for how the car acts on track. Somehow had two 400+hp EVO Xs in my class so I came in third out of three.

Running again next weekend... New rotors, pads and lines, also got a set of K&N short ram intakes. I'm on 245/285 Bridgestone S04s which were surprisingly not crappy at the first event although I'm guessing that as I get faster I'll probably end up getting a dedicated set of track wheels/tires.

Does anyone here run 18s for track wheels with sport package brakes?? I'm thinking thats the direction I want to go for the cheap/light factor.

A few posts above you are 2 guys running 18" f14's, definably can be done and will save some money on tires.
I'd look into the rule book on scca's website, I don't think the short ram intakes are legal in stock class. Not sure if you're wanting to run Bsp or BS just thought I'd let you know

Probably because with your mods you are in ASP, which is where 400hp evos run...

I run Enkei PF01 18x9.5" +35 18x10.5" +15 rims with Toyo R888 275/40r18 square right now. I have Nitto NT01 275/40 front 305/35 rear I want to use this season. This fits over the sport brakes without spacers as well. Loved the R888 for HPDE and autocross. My region runs on a long airstrip with runs that last up to 80-90 seconds and sometimes get into 3rd gear for a majority of the run, so the R888 do have a time to heat up. Semi-slicks like that aren't always the best choice for autocross at smaller events. Also, like someone had already said, those Evos sound like the ASP cars I run with (ugh they're not easy to beat). Maybe should have someone re-evaluate which class you're in.

03threefiftyz 02-14-2015 11:10 AM

Meh an ASP 370z should be faster than my car and I would have won ASP even on a much slower coned run at Nationals this year...

cruzthepug 02-14-2015 12:04 PM

Trying on the new shoes today, excuse the bad photo but I think the 285's fit pretty well.

Last I checked there's no national level Peru event this year. Not sure what part of IN you're from but don't forget about the Toledo events. We've got 2 here this year although getting into the Pro will probably damn near impossible at this point.

Good call. I'll probably make it to Toledo for the Match and at least one of the Pros. Peru is good concrete if you can make it.... they usually have the Hoosier Challenge and some decent local events.

gomer_110 02-16-2015 09:09 PM

Did the Peru match tour last year. Liked the surface, just not all the gravel between the course and paddock.

Good eye, I noticed after I got them on that they were wrong. Didn't pay any attention that the tires are directional, unlike the re11's that I used last year. Tires are mounted right, just had the wheels swapped.

New air filters, my z1 rear 2 piece rotors (finally!!), and ported throttle bodies coming in this week. Then off to RT Tuning for a corner balance, alignment and retune! Coming down to the wire.

Any of you guys ever use Nitto NT01's for autocross? Have a set for this season.

03threefiftyz 02-22-2015 10:42 AM

NT01's need some heat...they won't be any better than the newer, soft street tires unless it is quite warm out IMO.

This.
They are great down here in Alabama with 2 drivers but single driver in decent weather I doubt you'd get much heat in them

PharmDZ 02-23-2015 09:07 PM

Thankfully the course we run is usually pretty long (65-90 seconds) and high speed so we tend to build more heat in our tires than the typical shorter/slower autox courses. Definitely gonna try to utilize co-drivers this year though. My R888 seemed to do fairly well so I'm hoping the same for the Nittos!

IMWEZL 02-24-2015 12:26 AM

ALOHA, LOL! We are half way done with our season here in Hawaii.

I finally got a chance to take EVO School I and II. Almost time for a new set of tires at all corners. I also installed the Stillen Sport Pads and while they have a great initial bite they do tend to fade even on our 40-60 second course. (Yes, I bedded them in)

Either way I'm still having fun and kicking ***. Next season I'll probably jump out of Street and into one of the modified classes. I really want more suspension adjustment and I think it's time for some race tires after 5 years in Street or Stock Classes.

Results from our last race on 22 Feb (I'm the only 370Z) Although BJ in the 350Z is effing fast too. :driving:
