Is there a system you can put in place to stop these guys from joining the forum that doesn't run off new legitimate members?

It's a bit of a balance. AK can lock it up tight, but then it's difficult for new members to join and post. We don't really have a lot of spam issues here, so AK keeps things pretty casual.

Maybe something quick and easy. A short quiz where they show they can use the search button, and a sworn statement not to start any oil threads?
