Texas License Plates Become Optional

Boost_lee 12-06-2011 11:08 PM

hope they dont call a special session to address this law
Optional plates until 2013? I'll take it :)

JohnCNewJr 12-06-2011 11:45 PM

In! Gotta plug those holes in my darned bumper now though. Still likely to get pulled if they are looking for an excuse...

Thechidz 12-06-2011 11:47 PM

MJB 12-07-2011 06:25 AM

Hey, thanks Ron for the pm about the plate adapter and posting this new info. But it seems that this is a just bit of a "loop hole" in the law someone found, and that the cops would probably still harass us if we start taking our front plates off.

Ron 12-07-2011 07:36 AM

They probably will. It would just be easier to get it dismissed now. Still a hassle to go to court and all that.

Omikron 12-07-2011 08:29 AM

Nice :) Thanks.

shaun66 12-07-2011 11:10 AM

The way I read it, this applies to both plates. Would not need front or rear. :bowrofl:

The front plate issue comes up every now and then in congress, but somehow it always manages to stay in...

I don't really care too much now, I really like my vanity plates and the LPB I have is no issue.

Good find Ron!:tiphat:

Flushnismo 12-07-2011 11:53 AM

i like how politicians think that everyone is capable of reading laws and magically know exactly what they mean.

Dark Sarcasm 12-14-2011 07:53 PM

i have been sooo nervous lately about getting pulled over for no front plate.... AGAIN. Thanks for the info Ronster.

LukasC 12-16-2011 01:48 PM

I talked with my police officer friend and this is real. As of january 1st no more front plates in texas unless the hold a special session to fix it but he said he doesnt forsee it happening since most new sports cars dont have places for the front plate and a lot pf people dont want it.

Ron 12-16-2011 04:30 PM

Skeeterbop 12-16-2011 09:53 PM

Sounds like good news for you Texans! I personally don't see why there is a need for a front plate but w/e. The last part of that second article made me lol a bit. If the law requiring a fine doesn't exist any more, then how is it even possible to interpret the law in any other way than that there is no fine?
Quote:

Rep. Joe Pickett sponsored the law and has written to Attorney General Greg Abbott asking for an opinion clarifying enforcement. He argued that penalties are implicit.

The El Paso Democrat also said interpreting the law any other way could have absurd and dangerous consequences.

Astrosfan 12-19-2011 02:16 PM

Ron 12-19-2011 04:37 PM

ShockWave 02-13-2012 05:45 PM

So you can ride with no front plate in Houston TX?

Ron 02-13-2012 05:49 PM

I took mine off. No issues so far.

Flushnismo 02-13-2012 06:01 PM

I got pulled over for it and was told my excuse was BS.

Dark Sarcasm 02-13-2012 06:12 PM

did you get a ticket?

They way I understand it - you can still get stopped and ticketed but there is no punishment.

also, I'm sporting the no-hole front bumper:happydance::happydance::driving:

Flushnismo 02-13-2012 07:11 PM

Nope. Just a warning.

He knew you were right or he probly would have just written the ticket, he knows the laws and when anything changes. I also have a few police friends who say they can't write tickets for them until march at the earliest if the mistake gets corrected but that it will eventually be back in place.

No one wants it lol. Who would just drill holes in their car. The truth is the cops (not hating) don't care what kind of car you drive, an old beater Honda all the way up to a rolls Royce and beyond, they'll tell you that someone makes a bracket for that type of vehicle.
