could it be possible to just put it in front of windshield? i dont want a front plate on a Z as well.. thanks!

knightjustice 01-12-2013 12:42 PM

doubt it. if its a picky cop, they would say it would interfere with your view of the road.

sexZness 01-12-2013 12:44 PM

More like HELLO GUILLOTINE! :icon17:

punjabiZ 01-12-2013 12:47 PM

depends on the officer writing the ticket... If he or she is in a bad mood Im sure they can find several things to give you a ticket for like window tint, noise pollution (exhaust), different color led lights for license plate or turn signal etc...

sexZness 01-12-2013 12:51 PM

I've gotten a warning and ticket for every possible alternative position/location for the front license plate

Trust me, you don't want it on your windshield because it will slice you up if you're in an accident.

fuct 01-15-2013 04:27 PM

as much as i want to rip off the plate everyday i see it ill keep it on. i dont want any reasons to pull me over.... warning or not

faya 02-11-2013 09:53 PM

Ok. :) i just felt like our Z is better looking without front plate..

Pearland cop pulled me over in front of my house for no front plates. Only gave me a verbal warning after I told him about the loophole. He said it doesn't matter and that next time he see's me without my plates he will give me a ticket.

A month later he see's me while pulling out of a different neighborhood and follows me into mine. He speeds up past me and pulls over the car in front of me. I slowed down because I didn't want to hit him as he's getting out of his cruiser. He looks at me with a face and I look at him saying in my head: "damn straight you can't do jack".

Front plates or not it's up to you personally. I put mine on eventually when I bought custom plates. Also to avoid the hassle of dealing with cops again.

knightjustice 02-13-2013 07:03 PM

shoulda told the cop, go ahead, write it; bet ill get it dismissed

im still reppin no front plates.

never been pulled over cause of that. cops just pass on by or fly by pass me. (hpd, constables, state, atx when i visited.

red2010z 04-30-2013 04:14 AM

I don't have a plate on the front of my Z, The police don't care only time I have a problem is going to work on Ft Bliss they make me atleast show them a second plate.

Dzel 04-30-2013 05:01 AM

I have mine on my windshield and I did not even knoe this was existant I'll take mine down but probably keep it behind the passanger seat just in case.

If you put the license plate in the front passenger corner of the windshield, it does not obstruct your view. I know a few people who do this without any hassles. However, I never considered it because IMO it looks tackier in the windshield than on the front bumper. I'd rather not have it, but of those two options, I went with the front bumper :twocents:

Pintsize725 05-04-2013 08:51 AM

Bought a stillen bracket just in case the notorious Round Rock police department decides to give me crap about it. Since I'm taking the toll road less, I find myself crossing paths with many of them.

sexZness 05-04-2013 10:30 AM

that's how I got out of a ticket once when leaving the Twisted Sisters near SA... (he picked ME out of the a group of 10... :shakes head: )

I told him I had it in the hatch, so I asked him if he wanted me to put it on the car. He said yeah, so I popped that sucker on and he let me go with a verbal warning :icon17:

My understanding is it is legal. But to be fair, I've only heard that from someone I trusted. I have not looked into for myself.

It is not legal as far as the policy goes, but there is also no penalty according to the TX Penal Code. Someone messed up a little more than a year ago when they updated the laws and penal codes.

It's funny because I had a cop tell me that he was going to write me a 100 dollar ticket at the gate at Fort Hood. He also stated that it isn't his job to debate the penal code, but it is to enforce the law. I told him that that was fine and he could write me the ticket if he want's to waste our time and tax payer's money. He told me to just put it up in my windshield and he would call it even, so I did to avoid any further badgering. Just so that everyone knows, it only states that the license plate be displayed at the FRONT of the vehicle (windshield qualifies for that) and that I cannot be obstructed. This means that the letters and numbers be clearly visible and the word TEXAS can be read as well.

There is a law against having things on your windshield though. I had a discussion with an officer about that as well and stated that it should be illegal to put the inspection, registration, military base sticker, and TX Tag on it as well. He had nothing to say and stated that he was watching me.................lol!

Just as an aside to the last part. I think the reason for the tags being on the windshield was to prevent any chance of theft and probably to aid in visibility when you pass an officer head on.

Still though, stuff is tacky as hell... :shakes head:

fuct 05-20-2013 09:42 AM

you cannot have your plate on the dash no matter what. period.... ive been dealing/battling w my local police for 17 years on this crap. just put it on the front and be done with it.

every time ive been pulled over in the 370 the cops walk up front to see if there was a plate.

red2010z 05-20-2013 10:32 AM

You don't have to have it on the front of your car. Must be visible from the front. IE Windshield. They can issue verbals all day long. The day you get a ticket for it being on your windshield will just get dismissed. I am not drilling no holes or having some shitastic aftermarket license plate holder on my car. Been driving the Z over 2 years with no issues and that is being in different states as well.

People having issues are people who probably do nothing but cause it upon themselves. IE Speeding, Illegal Lights, Sound.

if you are looking for reasons to get pulled over, warning or not then yea put it in the front windshield. looks ghetto, it scratches up your dash and will get you pulled over...

to each his own.:tup::tup:

red2010z 05-20-2013 11:39 AM

Oh I don't do either. Only time I put the plate out is going on base. If I get pulled over Ill try to slip it up there real quick. Never had a issue.

kensnismo 05-20-2013 12:06 PM

some states now charge a fee to not run a front plate texas should do the same.they are always looking for budget cash.

Red2010z, thats's Bullish!t. I wasn't speeding nor driving recklessly and I got pulled over and cited for no front plate (YET AGAIN) on i20 in Harrison county when I was coming back from Zdayz. So no, I rly didn't bring it upon myself.

And like Ive said before, it all depends on each individual's experience but I've been cited for having it ON THE DASH, ON THE VISOR, and NO PLATE AT ALL. Because past law dictated it had to be mounted on the front bumper of the vehicle.

Now, if Anyone has info on CURRENT TEXAS FRONT LICENSE PLATE LAW, PLEASE LMK ASAP. I wanna fight this thing without having to drive back to the TX-LA border :shakes head:

ElVee 05-21-2013 08:05 AM

It's been said before, but I personally don't want it on the dash. Heaven forbid, if I get into an accident, I don't need to have a large, thin piece of metal slicing around the interior with my squishy body.

I like the idea of charging for the ability to not be required to have the front plate. But I bet that becomes a huge issue for law enforcement. I mean, maybe 75% of those you pull over for lack of front plate probably are on record for not having it. Then again, maybe that's the point: to reduce pull-overs just for the front plate. There are probably more important things to police in the country.

Get this. http://gominigo.com/NHLPB-main.html. Have on both my Z and other car, looks and works great. Sorry for the crappy pic, all the other ones show my license plate.

red2010z 05-21-2013 09:05 AM

In 2 years I have been driving my Z never once any issues with no license plate on front. Might just be the citys. I have driven from EL Paso- to Ft Rucker AL but no issues and I seen a buttload of cops in the Houston area passing through.

red2010z 05-21-2013 09:08 AM

And like I said I don't keep the license plate in the windshield only time I put it there is going through a small city or a checkpoint or going on base. Usually it rides tucked in between the seat and center console.

Boo. Maybe they'll get stuck on redistricting for those 30 days.
