tactical defending takes a few games to get used to. my defense is always stretched right now because i have a nasty habit of not keeping shape.

on the other hand, i finally got it right once last night, and recorded a 2-1 win over leverkeusen

rvp put in one at the 88th, then i focused on defending haha

....then i got spanked by the CPU playing as sp*rs

Yeah, exactly. I'm getting used to the tactical defending & sucking. I've only played twice, though, so I'm not losing sleep (moving is a bitch-- I'm ready for everything to be sorted & in its place).

i'm still horrible at defense and i've played 20+ games, It seems like every time I make a move for the ball ie stabbing at it with my foot, the offensive player cuts inside or outside and goes around me, not a fan of it at all.

The tackle button punishes you BADLY if you mistime it, or completely miss it. It's so easy to dance around tackles now, but I'm finding myself buying into the tactical defense, and using the formation and support players to choke passing lanes and stealing the ball back instead of tackling all the time.

You guys do know there is an option to put it back to the old defence, right??? Any of you play online club w your pro?? Thats what Im into. Im loving the overall player control/movement in this iteration of fifa. Trick moves are pulled off much easier and cleaner. Tactical def is hard tho, I agree.
On another note im blow away by Newcastles performance this season. 4th place, undefeated!?!?

Newcastle's defense is rock solid, and is allowing them to stay in games when most would count them out otherwise (Demba Ba? Leon Best? REALLY???).

Like I said Im impressed. Especially for a team that recently dug itself out of relegation and got rid of some of its better players. My partner at work is a huge Newcastle fan, he currently strolls around w a boner over the recent success.

Personally, I want to get good at tactical defending rather than going back to the old way. I feel like once I've mastered it, I'll be way better at the game as a whole.

the tactical defense is hard to grasp, but it reflects the difficulty of actual defense, instead of sending a player with a heat seeking device off to wherever f*Ck they go haha

it's fulfilling in its own right to get that slide tackle down perfectly now. i'm really really happy with FIFA 12.

although i did send someone careening from the goal post into the corner flag. physics engine FAIL, it was hilarious.
