I've been noticing some sports articles coming out lately about how soccer is gaining popularity. For the game's sake, I hope that's true.

Giants stadium sold out last year when Chelsea came to play the MLS all stars, its crazy how popular european teams are here and how unpopular our own league is.

I think if MLS would stop trying to ride the coattails of the more popular sport leagues here, (NFL, NBA, MLB), and stop attempting to create what they think would be popular among American people and create a league that mirrors the more popular leagues of the world, EPL, Primera, Serie A, the game would gain a strong following here.
1. Cut out that stupid bullshyt playoff system, not one league in the world does this. 2. Eliminate the conferences and create a single table with a point system 3. Eliminate the stupid salary cap and allow teams to actually spend money on big name players 4. Create youth academies to spurn talent at the club level 5. Give more thought to team names, really? FC Dallas? New York Red Bull? what a joke. 6. Stop playing games at rented american football stadiums and build your own park 7. Invite more european teams to play friendlies here on American soil 8. Create lower division leagues for teams to be relegated and promoted to should they not be up to par 9. Oh yeah, ensure each referee is FIFA licensed, MLS is an extremely dangerous league to play in, while this may be good to some, it puts players careers in jeopardy, if there is a foul, make the gawddamn call. I'm sick and tired of watching a foul fest when i'd much rather see more beautiful flowing football.

That is the biggest issue right there... The sports is what 100 years old... as in the competition level of World Cup etc... 1930 i believe was the first cup... won by Uruguay. But I know they won two other ones previous to those when it was an Olympic sport, before the concept of the world cup was made...and the FIFA later gave them the wins as a world cup... hence why Uruguay has 4 stars. I always though Argentina just gave them their two stars. Anyways.. when you try and change a sport with world wide recognition it goes horribly wrong.... I was going to keep typing something but got distracted with some cool info. 1930 World Cup official ball: 2010 World Cup official ball: ![]() 1930's United states Team who actually made it to the Semi-Finals... Guess they played better through the great depression. ![]() Back Row: Left to Right: Bob Millar (Coach), Jimmy Gallagher, Alexander Wood, Jimmy Douglas, George Moorhouse, Ralph Tracy, Andy Auld, Jack Coll (Physician). Front Row: Left to Right: Jim Brown, Billy Gonsalves, Bert Patenaude, Tom Florie, Bart McGhee. best player in the history: ![]() Followed by the best Goal in history.. same man: YouTube - Maradona Goal V England 1986 and so with this I leave you win the Champion of 2010: ![]()
