2012 Formula One Thread

So Speedweeks is well under way at Daytona, which means we're not too far off from the start of the F1 season. We've already had a few car reveals... discuss!

Ferrari's hideous new F2012:

I don't watch it much, but I will if there's nothing else on. The races are on Sunday, right? I remember watching them at work last year.

Force India's VJM05: Formula 1? - The Official F1? Website

We'll see how "the hump" works out this season.

Most of the time. The Asian races are usually on late Saturday night or super early Sunday morning (2am-ish). The European races are usually on around 7:30 AM Sunday mornings.

haggomyeggo 02-03-2012 02:29 PM

I know Steve! F1 is almost back

I'm a McClaren fan as I am a big Button fan and Hamilton is growing on me

MP27 doesbt look a whole lot different except for the new exhaust outlets....
Have to wait and see what the RB8 will look like and how it looks in Jerez..

I am going like seeing what DiResta can do with the new force india. I really liked him last year as a rookie

I also can't wait for the lotus to debut. I'm pumped that Kimi or the iceman is back

I've already been trying to plan my trip to COTA this summer!

m4a1mustang 02-03-2012 02:30 PM

It's gonna be nice to have Kimi back on the grid. We'll see what he can do with the Lotus.

TreeSemdyZee 02-03-2012 02:39 PM

Woohooo!

I've been watching last year's race reruns 'cuz I'm going through withdrawal. :excited:

m4a1mustang 02-03-2012 02:41 PM

I just hope for more competition this year. I like Seb but damnit I want it to be a more exciting race for the championship. :bowrofl:

To handle it....

Arguably, the best racing on the planet.

I don't think any one type of racing is the best, but it's definitely exciting as long as Sebastian is not running away from everyone at +2 seconds a lap. :bowrofl:

m4a1mustang 02-03-2012 02:57 PM

Speaking of fast Germans... I hope Mercedes is competing for wins this year.

I'll agree. Like to see Ross brawn get some wins

Even with vettel running away with the races there were still good races. Massa/Hamilton scuffle was pretty good especially Monaco

Yeah but it's always nice to see the best battles being the ones up at the front of the pack. :icon17:

haggomyeggo 02-03-2012 03:59 PM

So what I'm seeing is this dip on both the Ferrari and FI cars. But not on McLaren. I wonder why. Apparently the new rules state the nose cone must be lower to avoid going over the side pods and striking the driver
Mclarens solution looms much more streamlined.
With the collaboration between FI and McLaren I'm surprised they are so different. I know there are rules against or limiting colllusion between teams but still

m4a1mustang 02-03-2012 04:03 PM

Red Bull will show us which design is best when we see if their car has the hump or not. :icon17:

Definitely a lot better than watching NASCAR.

F1 is for n00bs. The real action and the exciting racing is in the LeMans Series. F1 is for dilettants :stirthepot:

Any race works for me as long as there's no Bud Light or Mullets.

m4a1mustang 02-03-2012 06:43 PM

Thankfully I'm not a typical F1-only prick so I can accept other forms of Motorsport as both challenging and exciting. :icon17:

Anyways, this isn't what this thread is about so let's try to keep it on topic.

F1 is for a handful of great drivers and a dozen rich boys that don't deserve their seat, let alone a ride at the local bumper car place. They just have enough money to buy a ride with a bottom tier team.

GaleForce 02-03-2012 09:15 PM

I'm pumped. My wife and I enter in a F1 fantasy pool. Last season she kicked butt, first place from race one and never looked back, she was number one all season (over 72 teams), won the big $$, and got the bragging rights... :shakes head:

Vettel is her driver and Alonso is mine. I could care less about Hamilton, yeah I'm still bitter about the Hamilton/Alonso Mclaren business...

Hopefully Ferrari will get their poop together and give my man a good car... :icon14:

haggomyeggo 02-05-2012 11:16 AM

Lotus revealed their car this morning. It has the dip in the nose but much less pronounced than the Ferrari and FI cars

And the LeMans series is great to watch as well. I love that speed does so much coverage for the 24 hours of LeMans
Also loved watching the Bathurst 1000 last year.

I wonder what Newey is up to this year with that inlet vent on the hump. The nice thing about the RB8 is the dark blue hides the hump a bit. Still, the E20 is the best looker of the humped cars, which are all second to the MP4-27 IMO. Good to see the Iceman back!

Guess someone will take his massive sponsorship dollars

*sigh* Last year's Silver Arrow looked so good too. What do you think that inlet behind the camera boom and engine intake is for?
