As the assumed owner of the Hornets, Stern acted within his means. It was simply a negotiation tactic to drive up the price for Paul. The Hornets ended up getting a much better deal with the lastest Clips offer than with their previous offers...including the Lakers. You're seeing the same thing play out with the Magic: deal is on with the Nets...oh wait deal's off...deal's back on...nope, nope, it's off again...etc. It's all in the name of getting the most value possible for your asset.
