GSP said that if he fights Silva, it might have to be at a catch weight or else it will take a while for him to gain all that weight. I think Silva will still win though. The only people I see having a chance at Jones might be Evans or Shogun (on a good day). Evans is a good wrestler and has trained with Jones long enough to possibly know his weaknesses. Shogun would need to be at his best if he hopes to beat Jones. He needs to go for the legs or tag him with a good shot.

Blue370tt 03-22-2011 10:48 AM

No way Rashad beats Bones unless he pulls a Matt Serra lucky punch. Jones is better than Rashad at striking and Rashad will still try and strike with him.

I also think GSP will beat Anderson.

am I the only one who thinks that wasnt Typical shogun?!?! Something was off....He didnt take his usual stance, use his weapons or even fight in the style/manner he always does. I have watched ever single one of his fights, since pride...and this wasnt shogun. Bones is a good fighter, but silva should dispose

:iagree:

I don't know if it was some stupid gameplan that he was following or it was cuz of the surgery or something else. Something was definitely off. I don't remember him throwing even one kick. That's his biggest weapon. I've said it a coupke times already, but if he used the leg kick strategy from his first fight with Machida I think he would have taken the fight. That's assuming he was fighting in his top form and figured out the right timing for his strikes.

TheGreatOne 03-22-2011 12:10 PM

actually, what it was was the initial knee

When I first looked at the fight, I didn't think the knee bones threw 30 seconds in landed, but it did, and flush....he wasn't the same after that, he was recovering from that point.

He also did seem flat...but I honestly think he was fighting an uphill battle from early on.

They need to bring in Gegard Moussasi from Strikeforce for Jones.

Outside of that, front runners are: Lyoto, Rampage, Rashad I guess....the rest have way too many holes in their games....Phil Davis is up and coming but not ready...

jones is unstoppable at 205.. he is the perect weapon at the size.. long arms and legs very aggressive but yet patient aswell....

the only potential issue i see with him is i could see him getting over confident with a spinning elbow or flying knee and get caught....

i dont think he will be beat by any of the current 205 guys that is until silvia moves up to fight him... or eventually he moves to fight a "smaller" heavyweight like cain or JDS.. i think those guys would beat him

b1adesofcha0s 03-22-2011 12:49 PM

I'm gonna watch the fight again this weekend with my cousin and ill be watching carefully at the knee. I thought it missed too. What hurt him the most though was the kick to the face and spinning back fist up against the cage. He was so dazed after that, you knew it was pretty much over unless Shogun managed some spectacular KO.

Jones, just like Silva, has the perfect build and frame for an MMA fighter. I can definitely see him moving up to heavyweight one day though. When he loses his size advantage, that's when things start to get dangerous for him.

Yeah Shogun is definitely one of my favs too. I was sad to see Shogun go down like that, but at the same time amazed at how good Jones was. I always knew he was good, but he took it to a whole new level with this fight.

ehh.. he isnt on the level of jones.. he looked great in DREAM.... beat down babalu but then got grinded out my king mo... i know he had all this hype of the baby fedor but i just dont think he has anything for someone as dynamic as jones.. other than that strikeforce has hendo... who has that wicked overhand but not much else these days.. so you go back to the UFC and the usual suspects of forrest rampage franklin and the gang really i dont think can compete..

now with rashad i dont think it will be a huge blow out as bad a the shogun fight.. but he didnt look good in his victory over rampage or thiago silva..both fights were the same he wrestled them grinded out some rounds but then got caught bad by both of them and almost lost......

i would almost say throw vitor in there with him out of all the guys... but its hard to even gauge where vitor is at because silva steven segaled his *** before we even had a chance to see much from him

yeah his reach is ridiculous ... i think i saw a push kick from him that almost went over shoguns head.. then when he gets you on the ground he just smothers you with the lanky body.. seems like a cool guy too.. between him and cain UFC has some great new ambassadors to the sport that are gonna get alot of cross over attention.. i see jones is on leno this week to talk about the robbery thing.....

b1adesofcha0s 03-22-2011 02:33 PM

Vitor would also be an interesting fight. He did really well against Franklin and seemed to be doing well against Silva before he got KO'd.

That reach is killer. There was a bunch of times where he just held his arm out against Shogun's face to keep him away. It was like watching a bully in a cartoon.

Here is the finish :)

I'll try to find a GIF of the initial knee

Nice, I definitely see him tapping. Did you make this or find it? Another god one would be the kick to the face and spinning back fist when he was up against the cage.

awesome left hook to the body...textbook.
