Official UFC Thread

Anyone who saw UFC 128 and Jones' fight vs Shogun knows what I'm talking about. He is just a beast of a fighter and seems to be unstoppable at this point. I can't think of anyone who can even challenge let alone beat him. Rashad Evans is gonna get destroyed. Anderson Silva is the only one who I can think of at the moment that has any real chance against him. Don't think that fight will happen though as Silva wants to stay at middle weight.

time is his only enemy

another example of a guy who is clearly superior

but this razor's edge only lasts a year or 2

because of the nature of the sport

someone will get him, maybe someone who's presently an unknown

Yeah Joe Rogan noted that this was the same thing people were saying after Machida beat Evans for the title. We all know how that turned out :icon14:

Whats amazing is he's been in MMA for about 3yrs, 84" reach, and only 23yrs old...

I called him beating Shogun but I didn't think it would be so one sided. Shogun has taken out so many big names...

I think Anderson might take the fight eventually....if people keep talking about how he could beat Silva, it might make him want the fight :)

I did not expect the fight to be so one sided either. The size difference was too much to overcome for Shogun. I'm surprised he didn't go for any leg kicks against Jones though. Those are one of his biggest weapons and would have gone a long way in slowing down Jones.

I can't decide whether I want to see Silva vs GSP or Silva vs Jones more. I think he might eventually take the fight with Jones. For that fight, I think quickness in striking will decide it. I definitely saw Jones using a lot of those front kicks Silva used to KO Belfort. It would make for a spectacular fight.

I would lean more towards seeing Silva vs Bones, size would be closer and we have a chance at seeing more of a strikers match up...

I think GSP would do well, He's been training at the gym I do Muay Thai at on Tuesdays...noticed lately he's been sparrign with bigger guys, doubt its just for his fight with Shields :)

But anyways, back to Bones, I was really impressed with how he handled himself, Shogun reminded me a bit of the last time he came off surgery and fought forrest, although this time, you could tell he was not sure how to attack him, couldn't even use his greatest weapon on him

That's cool, I would love to meet GSP in person. He seems like a really nice guy.

Jones was bigger, stronger, and faster than Shogun. The real killer though was the reach advantage. Shogun had to charge in to even try to hit him, which allowed Jones to easily dodge or counter it. I think Jones is kind of like Brock Lesnar. He seems unstoppable, but someone just needs to figure out the right game plan to beat him. He's a freak athlete, but he has a lot more overall skill than Lesnar which makes it even more difficult.

I think perfect timing + killer leg kicks could have slowed Jones down and taken away some of that reach. Other strategy would be someone who can take him down and keep him there GSP style.

Bones is good but wont stay on top long like GSP or Anderson. In fact, if he fights Anderson he will lose.

I have to disagree with you. Did you see the fight against Shogun? He completely destroyed him with minimal effort. Shogun's no pushover either. I wouldn't give anyone else in the division any significant chance at beating him at all, let alone in that manner. The scary thing is, this kid is still learning. He has a lot of room to improve and with experience I think he will be up there with GSP and Anderson Silva. This is exactly the way Silva came into the UFC. Obliterating every opponent including the champion (who was Rich Franklin in Silva's case). I'm not saying he would beat Silva, who happens to be my fav fighter, but he would have a decent shot and a much better one than anyone else. Just my :twocents:

Never said he wasnt good....but.....people were saying that Machida would rule the division for a while.......and we all know what happened.

:iagree:

I mentioned that in my 2nd post I think. I was disagreeing with you when you say Jones won't stay on top for long. He definitely has the potential to do so and become the next GSP/Silva. He could also be the next Machida and get blown out in his next fight. No one can know for sure, we'll just have to wait and see

Ya, he's really awesome, always friendly, even says hi to the scrubs in the gym lol.

I think whats so amazing about Jones right now is that he has not been put into a bad spot yet, he's also taken very little damage so if he keeps that up he has a long career ahead of him.

If he gets beat, I see it happening in a "Lay n pray" more grinding fashion, but he seems to have enough escapes and he'll be hard to keep down. I'm excited to see how far this kid can go.

His fighting style is really unpredictable too. All those crazy spinning back fists hurt Shogun pretty bad in that fight, especially the one where he was up against the cage. I have to admit though, Shogun has some serious heart. I'm surprised he lasted that long after taking that kind of beating.

TheGreatOne 03-22-2011 08:31 AM

Ya, the spinning elbow off the cage was something else, prefectly timed

Whats even more impressive is Jones made Shogun tap, as Herb Dean is stopping it, you see Shogun Tapping while he's on his knees....that sealed the deal in regards to how dominant he was in that fight

Hmm, Rashad next, then I'm wondering who...the LHW division has been up and down lately.

CBRich 03-22-2011 10:36 AM

Just looking at the rest of the 205 division I can't think of any real challenges for Jones. It would definitely take someone with good speed and footwork such as Silva to take him out. Maybe after GSP takes the 185 title Silva will decide to step up to 205.
