Vettel does it again...makes it look so easy too, KERS problems and everything. I was cracking up when Petrov thought he got wings, wonder if he drank red bull before the race, then his steering column breaking and him struggling to put it back LOOOL poor guy...he's becoming one of my favorite drivers, the whole incident was funny but I feel bad for him.

That was an awesome crash/jump. he really got some air. When you saw it from drivers perspective it didnt look that bad i thought at first but then they showed it from the front and dang he was probably 6ft in the air!!!

Exactly, when I saw the driver's view I was surprised how the column broke, when I saw how high he got off the ground it made sense.

when it happened Martin Brundle is like yelling at Petrov no no no no you cant get back on the track at full throttle like that stop!!

Boom Petrov catches air.
its like Brundle knew what was going to happen before Petrov hit the air.

But other than Vettel having another pretty easy race, the season has had some good racing. The way the Renaults took off. Alonso Hamilton battle. I think Button got into it with Massa again a bit. Im loving it so much

Has anyone heard which straight they are going to use the DRS on this weekend. Will it be the back straight or the front??
The back straight is much longer and would make the DRS more effective at the end but would it make it too easy to pass. Thoughts?

Spoiler alert

Now THAT was a great F1 race -- not sure what the record is for lead changes in a F1 race, but gotta believe today's race was right up there!

Great win by Lewis!

Although I'm NOT a big RBR fan, was still very impressed with Webber's push to the final podium place. Looks like the season will come down to the McLaren's chasing the RBRs (and sometimes winning.....)

I think today may have made the teams re-think their tire strategy for the rest of the year.

Agreed. Great race, though I was only semi-conscious for the last 5 laps or so ... :)

Glad that Vettel didn't win again -- this season has the danger of F1 becoming the "Red Bull Show"

Hows that Track coming down in Austin? Isn't that out near the airport some place?

Looked for it on google but either they haven't broken ground yet, or the current google maps are just too old.....

m4a1mustang 04-17-2011 12:03 PM

Wish I could have stayed up late enough (or woken up early enough) to catch the race. Sounded like it was a good one. I'm with Zag... glad someone finally crashed Vettel's party!!!

Zaggeron 04-17-2011 12:04 PM

@ Scott: Don't think they've broken ground yet, but they've officially named it "Circuit of the Americas"

Formula 1 United States | Austin 2012

It is by the airport and is probably only about 4 miles from my house -- right between my house and the airport. I could walk there on race day!

That's great -- so IF Mustang and I ever get tickets (figure those odds....) we'll have a place to crash!:icon17:

Zaggeron 04-17-2011 12:19 PM

I'm on the mailing list for tickets, but I'm not holding my breath. Big question is how they are gonna get all the people to the track. A traffic analysis a little while ago estimated a 12 hour car ride from any of the major highways around the track -- and they are all less than 5 miles away. If I get a ticket, I'll ride my bicycle :)

Wow just finished watching the race and it was amazing...It was nice to see Lewis pull off the win but I don't mind seeing Vettel win, if him and his car are that much better then they just are that much better. Loved seeing a nice race though...Webber was VERY impressive 18th to 3rd?!

Oh and I didn't know we were building a new track in Texas! You guys think it's gonna be difficult getting tickets? I imagine that would be one of the best weekends of my life.

There is going to be some pent up demand for tickets but considering the USGP at Indy never sold out, I think it shouldn't be too hard getting a ticket. Hopefully they aren't too expensive.
