I've never been there, but i'm down for it.

TypeOne 07-28-2011 09:10 AM

I was talking with Paul last night about it and I totally forgot that LSU Football and how it may hurt our chances of meeting near campus.

Butttttt... Season starts Sept 9th, so we are still good for that date!

KaienZ34 07-28-2011 10:52 AM

O'yeah most of their games are sat and not sunday.

TypeOne 07-28-2011 12:36 PM

Yea.. I thought about it and was like ahhh!
But we are good!

PaulZ370 07-28-2011 02:33 PM

Anyone know what condition is River Road in? Is it in good shape that we can drive it and enjoy it without getting jarred and beat up on bumps and pot holes? Is it smooth top? I am thinking we start at the USS Kidd by the River in BR for an initial Meeting point at 10am, then drive River Road (possibly, if it is in good shape) and enjoy some windy curvy roadway with some good scenery - it looks like there are a lot of Plantation Homes along the way that we can stop at and possibly take some awesome pictures of our 370's.

If anyone knows where the new bridge that Harold (Bucketman) mentioned in the thread above and what condition it is in, let us know. Also, I have taken the drive to The Myrtles in St. Francisville (a haunted plantation home) with the Louisiana Z Club a few years back when I still had my 300ZXTT - very smooth curvy windy road about an hour some from BR. So we got some options here, but we need information from you locals so we can make a good decision... We Need Input!

TypeOne 07-28-2011 03:07 PM

I'm down for a ride into the country and plantation area ect, it would be nice to get out of the city for a change. I can tell you that the river road near LSU is terrible and you might bend a rim driving on it. I went down it a week or so ago and it was almost unbearable.

I think a meeting place a little closer to the interstate might be better Paul, maybe something off I-10 for everyone to meet at is a good idea. Getting to the battleship isn't that simple if you aren't familiar with the area, not to mention there aren't many places to part. (unless it's on the street)

bucketman 07-28-2011 06:45 PM

Parking downtown by the USS Kidd as a group would be hard. There are some parking lots a couple of blocks to the north. Florida at River Road. Or we could all park on the top level of the Belle of Baton Rouge casino, most people don't park up top so we should be able to group up. We might be able to run down Nicholson and catch the river road futher south, not sure of the condition down that way(avoids the LSU area).Unfortunately crappy roads are sop in south LA. Maybe I'll make a run up to the Audubon Bridge this weekend to check it out, need to put some miles on the bike anyway.

True the tops are usally pretty empty.

PaulZ370 07-28-2011 07:25 PM

That'll be great Harold... Hope you find a good stretch of highway. Sounds like a good idea about the top parking lot of the Belle too. Do you think we can incorporate River Road and a trip to St. Francisville somehow? or am I going the wrong direction here? Sounds like it would be... Another idea is to run down River road to a Plantation Home there, then on to Cabela's in the afternoon - There are a lot of places to eat down Gonzalez (Chili's for instance)...

bucketman 07-28-2011 10:10 PM

I don't think river road and St. Francisville would work in the same day. River road back up to Gonzales would work. St. francisville over the river to New Roads and False river and back would be a separate trip by itself.

The bridge is open going from st. francisville to new roads. The road is AWESOME. drove on it last week. And its even deserted enough for a spirited drive.

PaulZ370 07-29-2011 07:01 AM

Well, what do y'all think? Which way shall we head? From Windex's post, and the consensus on staying out of the City, sounds like maybe we should seriously consider the St. Francesville trip - good road, it leads us out of the City, so no hang-ups in traffic and trying to find places to park - I think my vote at this time goes to the St. Francisville trip. We can stop at the Myrtles Plantation Home and take the tour of the "Haunted" house - it is very entertaining, not to mention a great background to take pics... drawback, not hardly any places to eat there. Last I went, there was a pizza place I believe in St. Francisville... I love Pizza myself...!

My Vote: St. Francisville, meet-up at the Belle at 0900hrs (early enough to enjoy the trip and back without being too late).

KaienZ34 07-29-2011 10:16 AM

It sounds good to me, whatever works best.

TypeOne 07-29-2011 10:33 AM

I think we should get some input from everyone else that wants to come.

Considering some of those guys are going to be driving 1-2 hours just to meet up with us. If they are down for it, I'm down too.

I'm not worried about really anything... I don't work weekends so I can drive wherever.

PaulZ370 07-29-2011 12:15 PM

David,

That's exactly why I placed a Vote (mine) - looks like Kaien voted the same (St. Francisville), and if I read you correctly, you're ok with St. Francisville as well.

Everyone: Please place your votes as well:

St. Francisville or River Road

Paul

KaienZ34 07-29-2011 12:15 PM

Maybe someone can get or already has something to mount a cam inside their car. On the rear brace bar behind the seats so you can see the other Z'z while dirving. We should be able to get some real good videos.

PaulZ370 07-29-2011 12:18 PM

Sounds like a job for : Z IT GO !!

How about it Mike?

(He's on vacation so it may be a little while before we get an answer)!

KaienZ34 07-29-2011 12:19 PM

I'll do whatever is best for everyone over all, as i don't know either area.

TypeOne 07-29-2011 02:53 PM

Yea... I'll do whatever everyone else wants to. Esp the guys that are driving from wayy further than me. I live in BR so, it's up to everyone else.

metz 07-29-2011 04:47 PM

Ah I just saw this. Haven't been on in awhile. Im down for sure, if I'm off. Ill have to check my schedule when I go back tomorrow night.

bucketman 07-29-2011 06:35 PM

Maybe we can eat in New Roads? Maybe even see some kini's, it is on False River! I vote north.

PaulZ370 07-29-2011 06:52 PM

LOL... Hey Bucketman - Kini's are always good, - uh, if it's on the right "stuff" that is...

So far, everyone is voting north... Cool!

:iagree:

PaulZ370 07-29-2011 07:17 PM

Check out the New Roads website - it has a picture of the new bridge... its a dozey... www.newroads.net

bucketman 07-29-2011 08:41 PM

It would be great if we can find a spot to shoot the Z's with the bridge in the background. Hey Paul lets see if we can find a spot on or near the lake to eat lunch. Something like Fred's.....ha ha!

PaulZ370 07-29-2011 09:15 PM

Fred's was outstanding - we'll need to do that again!

There are a few places around the area that I can see on the internet, but its not like seeing them up close and personal, and not sure how close they are to the bridge. I'll keep checking...

windex 07-30-2011 07:39 AM

Ill ride by the bridge today and take pics so everyone can see

PaulZ370 07-30-2011 07:44 AM

Cool - Thx Windex!

I'm gonna be doing some work getting my car ready for the meet.

:-D

TypeOne 08-05-2011 10:04 AM

Any updates on this guys... time is running down, we need to get some solid plans so everyone can make arrangements.

I say we meet up in the Target parking lot off Seigon Lane and then go from there. It's easy to find, right off the interstate.. once everyone is there we can go do what everyone plans.

Punk86 08-05-2011 10:13 AM

I am cool with whatever you guys want to do, but my preference is that we dont meet too early... just a preference though. haha

PaulZ370 08-05-2011 10:16 AM

David,

The plan I think has already been made up but never put together in one sentence - so I'll summarize: We meet at the top Parking Lot of the Belle Casino at 0900hrs and then head out at 1000hrs (to give everyone a chance to make it there) to the New Roads Bridge where we can stop and take some pics, then to one of the restaurants there and have lunch. After lunch, we cruise to St. Francisville. The Myrtles Plantation is another great place to end the outgoing part of the cruise and take some more pictures. Then we head back. Should be a nice cruise on some very nice roads from what I gather from everyone who knows the area.
