FWIW, I'm in those canyons damn near every weekend and if you're talking about actually arriving in the canyons at 10AM, that's fine. Meeting at 10AM, however, will be too late. Even on my motorcycle I try to head out into the canyons no later than 10am (keep in mind, I can split lanes on the bike).

The problem is more with the traffic on the way out, not so much with traffic heading to or even up in the canyons, although there will be some. It can/has take(n) nearly 2 hours to get from Malibu Canyon Rd to the 10 along PCH on the way home not too long after lunchtime. And that's only a 15 mile drive!!! So I'm loving this thought of meeting at 9am, giving us plenty of time to get in and out and even eat lunch without catching PCH gridlock hell. (Assuming this 9am meet location is no more than 30 min or so from where the canyons begin).

i usually run about 200-220 max 240 and thats holding a gear too long or straights

Last weekend I was running as high as 260 - it was unusually hot out there on the valley side of the mtn. But even that didn't seem to bother the Z at all. But as Asiatik says, I wasn't pushing it too hard. Too many cops except on certain roads that most people seem to not know about... heh heh.

D'OH! I just realized my folks are coming to town on the 18th. I'll have to check to see what time they are thinking of getting here to make sure I can hit the canyons then get back to town to meet up with them.

Well, keeping up with you guys will probably be pushing it for me haha. That is good to know that your temps aren't too bad, I haven't really seen mine go past 230 with some hard driving but the ambient temperature wasn't too warm then either.

Canyon Run Returning Home

Sorry for the low quality, I had to fix up the video, and I only had 640x480 to work with, and ended up cropping a lot.
Next time around, I'll see if I can get a better camera.

Higher ambient temps are what worry me, I hit 240 today sitting in traffic so I switched on the A/C and it shot down to 210 lol. Pretty neat.

Random questions: how do you like the Stillen crank pulley? Do you have the underdrive version?

No problem, I did not want to leave anyone out so thanks for letting me know. Everyone who has shown interest has been added. Also, anyone who knows a fellow Z owner who would be down for a canyon run, please refer them here!

Since the crest has been... well, not as fun since the closures... and much of Mulholland, Encinal and a few other roads around Malibu have fresh blacktop, the police have been out in the canyons the past month and a half in more numbers than I've seen in the past 4 years. Consequently, you can't really push it even if you want to (at least not on a nice day when they know bikes and sport cars will be trying for lateral gs - it might be different if the marine layer is up and people are staying off the coast).

This was about as hard as we pushed it (until we got to some... off the beaten path canyon roads) when I was hanging with my boy and his Lotus club this past sunday. And yes, I'm filming and driving - calm down, my Flip camera requires no thought to use, nor visual spot checks. Literally, you just point and shoot the tiny little thing and you get pretty decent video. We couldn't go fast (a cop literally got in the middle of the line at the stop sign - part of why the video ends there), so one-handing it in 3rd gear was not too much of a challenge)
