Higher ambient temps are what worry me, I hit 240 today sitting in traffic so I switched on the A/C and it shot down to 210 lol. Pretty neat.

Random questions: how do you like the Stillen crank pulley? Do you have the underdrive version?

LEts start a list and get this going.

Thanks Br0

christian370z 08-26-2010 03:54 PM

No problem, I did not want to leave anyone out so thanks for letting me know. Everyone who has shown interest has been added. Also, anyone who knows a fellow Z owner who would be down for a canyon run, please refer them here!

Well, keeping up with you guys will probably be pushing it for me haha.

Since the crest has been... well, not as fun since the closures... and much of Mulholland, Encinal and a few other roads around Malibu have fresh blacktop, the police have been out in the canyons the past month and a half in more numbers than I've seen in the past 4 years. Consequently, you can't really push it even if you want to (at least not on a nice day when they know bikes and sport cars will be trying for lateral gs - it might be different if the marine layer is up and people are staying off the coast).

This was about as hard as we pushed it (until we got to some... off the beaten path canyon roads) when I was hanging with my boy and his Lotus club this past sunday. And yes, I'm filming and driving - calm down, my Flip camera requires no thought to use, nor visual spot checks. Literally, you just point and shoot the tiny little thing and you get pretty decent video. We couldn't go fast (a cop literally got in the middle of the line at the stop sign - part of why the video ends there), so one-handing it in 3rd gear was not too much of a challenge)

christian370z 08-26-2010 10:26 PM

Very true on all your points, that is some consolation for me then. I haven't been up there for the past 4 months since I got out of school so I didn't know they did some paving (which was much needed, some of the roads were in terrible condition). There are a bunch of smaller roads such as Latigo Canyon Rd and Corral Canyon Rd which were almost always empty all the times I ripped through there in my Saab. But you guys are definately the experts, do you think we should all figure out some loops to alternate with
or just decide on a route on the spot?

Great video btw!

tru_Asiatik 08-26-2010 10:33 PM

wow ur oil temp was up there huh??? were u in 3rd the whole time?

djamalt 08-26-2010 10:42 PM

Latigo has still not yet been paved over, but is still a great run.

IMHO - in terms of loops, as in actual "loop" which you would a few times back to back, my favorites have been:

PCH - Decker - Encinal - PCH

PCH - Las Flores - Saddlepeak - Tuna - PCH

PCH - Yerba Buena - Mulholland - PCH (yerba buena is always empty, but the surface is not in the best conditions - no craters or potholes though, just uneven and gravely in several spots. We still ripped sh** up coming down it on sunday though - LOL)

But I hardly do those in loops so much anymore (save Decker, it only takes between 10 and 12 minutes to run that loop so it's hard not to do it more than once). I kind of just combine one lap through most of those with some healthy mullholland and PCH cruising and sprint down latigo.

For that stretch of Mul- from Las Virgines to the stop sign at Cornell, yeah. 3rd gear the whole way - since I was trying to film. The oil was around 240 during this part. I got up to 260 for a couple minutes a little earlier before we got to this stretch. That was on Piuma where we were pushing it a little harder than we were in the video. And it was crazy hot out on sunday too! Don't forget, PCH side is Malibu cool, but the other side of the mtn is the valley.

WAGAWAGA 08-27-2010 07:23 AM

Will it be fine if this is my first Canyon run ever?

Yes, this will not be all out. It will be fast, but always remember that if our Zs can handle the speed we will run at, so can yours. ;)

Just stay further behind whomever you are following haha, isn't that easier? Unless you just want to write in tape "show ur boobs" on the side of your car that is...

tradervic 09-04-2010 04:02 PM

Question:
marco, trips(since im not sure how to spell your name), or vic.

Is the pace in this run going to be the same or slower than the one we did last saturday?

lol I already know I can't keep up if it'll be the same as last saturday...need more run under my belt.

I can say that it will not be as fast as the more hardcore run you guys just completed. It will be as fast as the conditions will allow which takes into consideration traffic, temperatures, and po-po activity.

But this will be my first run so I am curious to see what Marco/Triple's/Vic will think!

tbonesteak 09-06-2010 12:25 PM

just got back from traveling and didn't keep up with any of the canyon run threads. Can someone tell me when and where to report to for the next run? I think my driving can hang but not my hot oil so it'll be interesting to see where I stand.

phelan 09-06-2010 12:28 PM

18th, sir. refer to the first post.

christian370z 09-06-2010 05:34 PM

I alright got you down Tim, you are on the official list. If you are coming, that would be awesome!

sensi09 09-06-2010 07:45 PM

Didn't read the whole thread, but I'm in for the 18th. And I too prefer the road less traveled.

tbonesteak 09-07-2010 12:04 AM

i'll be there on the 18th!

christian370z 09-13-2010 01:02 AM

Hope everyone has had a good weekend, see ya in 6 days!

djamalt 09-14-2010 12:03 AM

Looking forward to it.

christian370z 09-14-2010 12:35 AM
