We were out doing pulls on the highway (in Mexico of course!) tuning it. It was pulling really strong. Had a little bit of break up but we were working on that. Then we had a huge boost spike a pop goes the weasel basically. We towed it up to a shop near Asheville yesterday for a rebuild. The guy there, who pretty much only works on rotary engines, said that if it blew a corner seal the way it happened, whoever rebuilt it last (just before Geoff bought the car) either didn't do a good job or didn't put the parts they said they did in the motor. We'll find out today as he said he would have the engine out and torn down by this afternoon...

Yes, been following the club for about a month now. Reading up on some of the Z's Pro's and Con's. Also Anyone pick up the New Escort Max2? I grabbed one still learning the App it Bluetooth's with. I know Cola on I26 is hot with State boys and I do a lot of travel to Ashville Area. figure I would grab one since the speedo on the Z is a crapshoot on what speed your really doing And...If anyone is selling a used exhaust in the area I might be interested if the price is right.

Welcome to the club then. I have the Escort Max as well, and it can be quite a money saver if you regularly exceed the speed limit. My Z's speedo is about 1mph off at 65mph according to the Max, and it's 2mph off at 100mph.

Performance exhaust? I have a <300 mile stock exhaust if you want it

Well the verdict is in and its not good. BUT it could be worse!!! First off The shop that did the previous rebuild lied to me and not only did they lie but they performed an abomination to rebuilds. The used factory mazda 3 piece seals which havnt even been manufactured in 10 years. The left out some seals and steve (my newly acclaimed rotary mechanic) was surprised it even developed intake pressure. Little nuts and bolts missing everywhere and internal engine seals poorly installed.

The bad:
gouged out rear rotor housing and burred up rotor as well and some chipped apex seals..

The Fix:

Full on half bridge ports for high boost capability and new borg warner s363 turbo good for 800 hp on a 1.3 liter (once I have all the supporting mods). add meth injection to get 93 pump gas up to 105-110 octane so I don't have to use race gas. all with a warranty from the shop and im not paying until I take delivery.
