Sound Deadener Give Away - Second Skin Forum Vendor

Hello again!

To help generate some noise about our noise and heat control products on the370z.com we are going to hold a give away.

Roughly $1500 worth of free Second Skin Sound Deadening to help reduce tire noise, or some of the more obnoxious exhaust note some of you get when modifying your Z.

We will be selecting 10 winners from this site, each of which will be getting the following sound damping products:

40 SPL Tiles
This product is a vibration damper that comes in small sheets. Simply remove the release paper and apply the tiles on the interior of the cars sheet metal, evenly spaced out through the entire car, with a bit more attention in the rear wheel wells and quarter panels.
Remember though, these product are Vibration dampers and will only address structure borne noise.

2 sheets Luxury Liner Pro
This is our best MLV noise barrier (mass loaded vinyl)
Luxury Liner Pro will go on top of the vibration mat, to reduce the transfer of airborne sound waves. These will go on top of the rear wheel wells, quarter panels, and floor surrounding the wheel wells to block out the Tire noise from the back half of the car.

If you wanted to do the entire car, to make it quiet as a new luxury car, you would use about 120 tiles and 5 sheets of Luxury Liner Pro.
The package we are giving away is just a starter kit, but will give you some pretty nice results.

I'm interested in this, mainly to cut back on the tire/road noise coming from the rear, but my concern is that it will knock out too much of the exhaust sound, that I love so much. The Berk exhaust is a little loud in some rpm ranges, would be good to cut some of that down, but don't want to make it go away completely. Any thoughs?

If I'm not too late to the party...

1. sig11
2. I qualify and agree. Since I'm in Michigan I would probably be on the tail end of the 6 weeks to install. :)
3. 2009 Solid red 6MT 370Z. Kenwood DNX9140, Fast Intentions TDX exhaust, Hotchkis sway bars. Before spring I intend to add a Stillin G3 intake. When a suitable spare tire sub box is released I plan on replacing the rest of the stock audio equipment.

4. The other website I would post on is my350z.com. If the product is as good as I hear and I expect I will be happy to spread the word and give rides at local events as well as posting in sound deadening threads. :) I would consider decals as well.

5. My first car was a 1996 Cavalier that I put a 12" kappa perfect sub in. One night coming back from playing paintball at 1:00AM or thereabouts in a nasty thunderstorm I hydroplaned and put the car in the ditch. The spin/bump caused my new scuba tank to collide with my 10 disc sony cd changer which received a nasty dent but never skipped.

yellowZ 02-08-2010 01:08 PM

I don't need the giveaway, but would like some pics on where to spray the spectrum in the wheel well so I have an idea of how to do it. If you have a 1/2 kit that just reduced a bit of the rear wheel noise, I'd be very interested.

corbin09 02-08-2010 02:18 PM

1. Post your Forum user name- Corbin09

2. State that you qualify to the above terms and agree to follow through with them as they are written.- I agree to the terms above and will follow through with them.

3. Post a description of your car with current mods (if any)- 09 monterrey blue 370z Tanabe nf210 springs, custom single exit exhaust, pop chargers, and xxr wheels with nitto tires. I plan on doing audio within the next 2-3 months, but my exhaust and tire noise is UNBEARABLE. i can even post in and out car vids of before and afters.

4. Post how you plan on helping promote Second Skin, and list the other web site you will post your build log on. I would be willing to promote with my experiences on VARIOUS forums I am a member on, as well as i wouldnt mind repping a logo or two.. if it wasnt ugly, and not too big.

5. You must tell us something about yourself that nobody on this forum knows about you- I used to play paintball competitivley and I am pretty saavy at messing with cars.

flashburn 02-09-2010 11:53 AM

I'm probably late for this, but I figure I would post anyway. Like you said, not too many people notice some of these Sponsor subforums.

1. flashburn

2. I qualify and agree with all terms.

3. Zenclosure 12" with Elemental Designs Sub + Amps, Boston Acoustic SPZ60 components, Kenwood DNX9140 + Sirius/IPOD.

4. I'll post a build log on here, as well as a post on avsforum.com. I've never done Sound Deadening myself before, but was already planning on either using your product or Elemental Design's product. So my log will be taking the approach as a newbie to diy sound deadening. My previous car, an RSX, had the entire car deadened with ED, both Butyl and Closed Cell Neoprene types were used. I had a local shop do that installation. I'll also be sure to mention your product to anyone else who is looking to reduce noise in their cars.

5. Don't laugh, but my first car was a '98 Dodge Neon. Hey, it got the job done, I beat the hell out of it, and it kept me out of trouble (somewhat)!

The Gallon Kit is the smallest we offer.
1 Gallon is usually enough sound deadener to do 4 wheel wells decently well
2 Gallons is ideal for a very good sound deadening job though.

This is about as close as I can get you to wheel wells in a Z.
It is a Factory Five Roadster we did last year.
First we applied a laye rof Damplifier Pro to the wheel wells then Spectrum noise coating.

Has anyone won this give-away? I'm interested in the photos and the writeup regarding these products. I'm definitely interested in doing this mod, but would like some photos and a bit of narrative.

I guess this is the goal of Second Skin - to get Z owners to buy their product after seeing it being used and described on an actual Z. I'm one of these hapless victims (tongue in cheek): as soon as I can see and hear from a Z owner the utility of Second Skin's products, I'll be willing to plunk down some hard earned $ to do it myself.

So who has won?! Have you done the install yet? Let's see some pictures and a bit of narrative regarding the process & results!

phelan 02-18-2010 02:27 PM

i'd think if they were still doing this they'd give them to all who signed up, since so far it's less than 10...

i'd do it, but i don't want to add 100 lbs of weight to the car, i'd only look for a little bit of padding in the rear wheelwells to address some of the noise a bit.

flashburn 02-18-2010 03:49 PM

I added it up before. It wasn't too bad, something like 30lbs for everything they give you. Seems like it would be worth it (at least to me).

yellowZ 02-19-2010 10:39 AM

Second Skin - who has won? I'm interested to see some Z pics.

2) warranty

All information can be found on their website.

I can tell you my package (what was listed in their giveaway + a can of adhesive) was 29lbs according to UPS.

sig11 03-08-2010 12:23 PM

I did my install yesterday. The sun went down before I got finished so I didn't get too many good pictures. In fact I just realized that I forgot to do final shots before I put the panels back on. :( I've got a little bit more luxury liner left to glue down in the trunk When my hands heal up a little bit as well.

Those plastic panels and the weather stripping are a real whore to get back on. I probably spent an hour putting things back together. I made a few mistakes that I hope others learn from when I post my threads... I'll try to work on them tonight/tomorrow and get 'em up ASAP.

flashburn 03-09-2010 05:08 AM

Nice! I've been delayed because of work, so it might be a couple weeks before I can start on mine.

I'm looking forward to your writeup! I'm anxious to move in this direction and am glad to see someone has taken both the tiles and the luxury liner (both I'm wanting to install) and put them in. Keep me posted!

Looking forward to your review. How is your first impression, did it make a big difference in the noise levels?

Second Skin 03-10-2010 02:37 PM

Can't wait to see some pics.
(hope you took some)

Keep in mind though, the package I gave away, though it is $165 worth of stuff, is not enough to do an entire 370z

To make a drastic change you would need twice as much material..
This is a very solid start though!

I took my first real drive today. I had hoped to borrow an SPL meter for before/after but Sunday's weather was so good I just jumped in. I think it knocked down the tire noise a lot and helped with the drone in high gears/low RPMs that the FI exhaust produces.

I'm sorry about the delays I've been really busy this week with work.

+1 comeon: free stuff = writeup!

3.17.10: I ordered second skin materials due to this promotion. Second Skin - it worked & I'll be posting info too!

JB1 03-15-2010 11:18 PM

:iagree:
Even though I will be taking my car to the track occasionally, I still want to make it as quiet as possible. I am really thinking about adding some Second Skin sound Deadening stuff.
Waiting for some real reviews to see if it's worth while...

schrute 03-15-2010 11:55 PM

The deadline from the vendor was six weeks after receiving the product. I received the product on 3/1. I'll have my writeup done by the deadline, sooner if I can find the time. As much as I love hearing my new intake and exhaust, the road/tire noise gets a little old on my 60 mile roundtrip daily commute (especially since I switched back to my 255/295 summer tires a week or so ago). I'm looking forward to doing this install and posting the results. :)

One thing I'll mention in advance of my install/review is that I had an issue with how much my credit card was charged (shipping was not included in the giveaway and I bought a few extras to facilitate the install). A simple email to ANT from Second Skin was all it took to resolve the issue. GREAT customer service so far.

sig11 03-16-2010 10:07 AM

Sorry! I've been slammed with work the last week.

flashburn 03-23-2010 07:43 AM

I still haven't done my install due to work. Though I am planning on doing it this weekend as long as things go as planned. I was kind of hoping someone else would have a writeup before I did it, since I've never done sound deadening before, so this will be interesting!

It is really not that difficult.
The tiles will go mostly on the floor, in the hatch, and on the wheel wells and quarter panels, spread out evenly.
The Luxury Liner Pro will go on top of the tiles (glued down with contact adhesive) on the quarter panels and wheel wells, with some on the floor.

To do an entire Z you would need closer to 5 sheets of Luxury Liner Pro, but the 2 we gave you is a good start, especially when you are strategic about the placement of the products.

I just posted my thread here. I'll toss a slightly modified one up on my350z soon. :) http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/1...ll-review.html

tl;dr: The result was great, but I suck at working on car interiors.
