I'd measure the voltage at the detector. My guess is that you are not tapped into a 12V line or the load of the detector is pulling more current than the wiring can handle causing the voltage to drop...

Check the voltage at the mirror connector (unplugged) and at the detector (plugged in).

Pinout for the connector should be in the FSM....

Pinout for the connector should be in the FSM. Double-check your wiring.

If you didn't use the proper tool to makeup the RJ-11 connector, you probably screwed it up.
