It might bottom out the shocks and blow them with Tanabe's extremely soft spring rate. It will also hurt the performance aspect of it with the spring rate extremely softer than stock.

That is a clutch smell. I am 99% sure about it. Since I took mine to the local track and used the clutch hard, it smells just like how you described. Try to slip a clutch a little to see if it smells.

I did not get a Nismo because I drove my friend's Nismo, and I felt that it is not for a middle aged guy like myself due to the radical looks....

Generally speaking, oem shocks (Nismo also) have a good amount of range to stray from the stock spring rates. I would definitely not run Tanabe, because the ride will be over damped.
