February '12 Porsche Photoshoots

well, it's a mad dash to the finish now. we've got 6 or so more cars to full shoot before the end of the month all while trying to shoot extra parts and work out some kind of group shot of them all together. this weekend we did a little of this and that, mostly focusing on finishing up the 917/30 (one of the most powerful race cars ever made) shots and getting a lot of the mclaren MP4/3 driven by Alain Prost in 1986 and '87. it's part of this collection because it has a TAG/Porsche TT 1.5L V6 which follows in with the rest of the collection being turbocharged porsche's. this thread will be updated weekly with new shots and the folder listed below will be the one link for the rest of the month as well. without further ado...

1. both Lowenbrau 962's together, shot with plenty of room for text underneath in the book about the cars


2. both from above, look for the subtle differences in the body

6. the rear wheels are 13x16.3" according to wikipedia o_O


7. front end detail on the Sunoco 917/30


8. in 1973 this car made over 1500hp and weighed ~1200lbs dry

Great photos... I've read so much about the 996 turbo using the GT1-derived engine, it's cool to see the car up close.

eh... not sure about that. the motor in the GT1 is very, very similar to the motor in the 959. the 996 turbo's engine is fairly different. they have lots of parts for these cars including pretty much everything except the engine block for the GT1. lots of the parts are marked "959" or "959/GT1"

for these? yes, the owner has 3 hangars at the airport so we shoot out on the tarmac between them. very convenient

didn't have time to finish up last weekend's pictures before heading back last week to finish out the photo work. we've got everything wrapped up now, hopefully going to the auction in FL in a few weeks too! here's my fav's from weekend before last:

9. 962-103 with the tail off, it's all original so it doesn't look as good as HR1

11. 103's interior, again, not as nice looking as HR1's, this is how it was when the car stopped racing


12. the back of the 996 GT1 with the tail off, check out that pushrod suspension!!


13. the McLaren MP4/3 with the body off

15. this is 935 #001, capable of immense speed, it was tested with a quarter mile time of 8.9secs in 1975!


16. and this is one of four original 911 turbo's ever, this is a Carrera 2.1 RSR, literally the beginning of turbocharged porsches


i've got lots more to go through this week wrapping up this whole thing. i'll post another 8 once they are all done!
