Just took this a couple hours ago. Finally got an opportunity to bust out the 70-200 f4 IS for some panning shots. Still working the kinks out as I haven't done it a whole lot.

Looking for opinions on the Nikon D750 and D810. I'm not a pro but I've been doing this off and on for the last 15 years and I like quality. I don't care to sell my material. I just want good pictures and I do everything from desert landscapes and portraits with limited action shots (but probably going to be heavier on that side come summer time).

My buddy says the D750 should be the ticket here. But I'm obsessed with overkill and I believe the 810 would be serious overkill for my use.

Anyone with experience on one, the other or both? Care to chime in?

I am using a D810 and love it. Quality is great and the MP is just amazing to have. I use mine for hdris/backdrops and for me it was between the D810 or 5DM3. D810 had more MP so I went with it.

I personally prefer Canon. I'm not really good at this and it's hard for me to remember all the settings. I just prefer the Canon menu's to Nikon. They seem more friendly to amateurs/weekend warriors like me

The IQ between the 3 full frame Nikons is going to be minimal and barely noticeable and the extra megapixels is kind of a disputed area as far as whether it really matters or not, with some pros saying 22-25 MP on full frame is more than enough. The 810 has 36MP I believe. So you gotta take that with a grain of salt, especially if your not selling prints, it may not be beneficial to you. I tend to look at it this way, the 750 will probably give most people more than they need performance wise and even at the entry-pro level making the price difference between the 2 hard to justify. I read something interesting covering the topic of MP and such. I really like to do low-light photography and one reviewer said that the 810 was outstanding here due to the density. I guess it is possible but I'm not sure that's the entire story. I need to find a 750 to play with. I do like the fact that the 750 and 810 are very quiet too. Canons are too damn loud.

No way man, my 5D Mark III is way quieter than one of my bosses D810! That thing goes off when we're doing weddings and I can here it across the church! My 7D was loud as it was, but the 5D is really quiet compared to it.

Yeah the D810 is loud haha. Also from my experience I believe even my 7D shoots faster than my D810. If it wasn't for my hdris I would honestly would have went with a 5DM3. Just need to have my panos to be 20k pixles so that's why I went with D810.

I really just need to get my hands on both at the same time for a side by side comparison. But i think I'm leaning toward the 750 now. Just needed time to get over my own hyped up feelings about the 810. Lol. Damn I can't wait to get a full frame format camera.

Switching to the 5D Miii from the 7D was ridiculous as far as the possibilities it opened up for me. For example, I just shot a wedding that was at night and the 5D never missed a shot, whereas my 7D backup camera had a really difficult time focusing and the noise at 1600 ISO vs the 5D was almost unacceptable and I'd never give clients files that crappy. I find myself shooting at 1600-2000 ISO and the shots being pretty much perfect after a light noise reduction in post. I'm sure the Nikon equivalents will be just as substantial a difference whether you choose the 750 or 810.
