Onzedge its a cannon ER 50mm f/1.8 lens. Would that be a wide aperature lens? i think i may return it unless its better for taking fast shots.

Is it an "EF"? Probably. 1.8 is not super fast, but faster than many lenses. It will be faster (more useful in low light) than your zoom.

Yes sorry EF* Great info! So if i wanted a really fast lens what would you suggest?
