I went to a large format camera to teach me patience. It worked. Film was about 3 to 5 dollars a frame and developing was about the same. So each image was about 7 or 8 dollars to get one 4x5 inch transparency. At that price, gotta slow down and get it right. Then scans, and printing on top of that. Hi-Res scans with a Heidelberg Tango scanner was about 80 dollars a pop. The upside is that I can do 4x5 foot prints that have very high detail. I can't get the film I want for it any more so I will sell it and pick up a new DSLR.

So now I am thinking of the Canon 5Ds and the GigaPan Epic Pro to get large print detail. Anybody ever use a GigaPan? It's about the same price for the panorama gear from Really Right Stuff, but automates the capture. Supposedly it comes with the software to stitch as well. If you set it up to correct for parallax errors it makes it very easy from what I understand.

Yup. Big prints with minimal to no grain and great detail were my thing. I would like it to be my thing again.

Anybody have experience with mirrorless cameras and how they compare to DSLRs? I'm looking at possibly getting a Sony a6000 to replace my Canon SL1

Sony Alpha a600 They allow you to compare image quality side by side with what ever camera they have data. |

Best buy is having a sale on the 24mm and 40mm pancake lenses. Which would be better for a t3i? I'd like something I can use for photos of my son but also a few city shots now and then.

Shot this bad boy Friday night. Beautiful curves but for the price I would much rather get a GTR.

Okay i have a decent collection of Canon glass.
Camera body is a Canon 60D. The 70D wasn't much of an upgrade. 1. What's the next step up on the Canon model range? 2. If i'm moving from a 16mp sensor... is there much room for improvement? (besides iso) Thanks all! |

Most people are limited by their lenses more so than their camera. What kind of lenses are you using currently? |

Lenses are as follows:
Any thoughts? |
Yeah man, so if you want to keep the lenses you currently have, then you shouldn't get the 6D, or any full frame body, as the 18-135 and the 10-18 won't fit full frame bodies. My honest suggestion is to keep what you've got and invest in better lenses if you are looking for better image quality.
IF you want to just spend money, buy a 6D with the 24-105 and you're set. Can't beat it, really. |
Bought the 24mm pancake lens recently but haven't been able to find an infant to take photos of. I know it won't be as good as the 40mm but it seemed like the better walk around lens.

Playing around with my strobes today so I needed a test subject.

Anyone get a shot of the Perseids last night? I tried but clouds started moving in as it got late.

I will say I hate the fact that I cannot plug them in and use them. Really sucks having to recharge. Depending on how things go I might buy Profoto Acute 2R at the end of the year to give me that extra power I am looking for. That is if I dont buy a GTR haha, otherwise thats where all my money will go. |
Damn wish I had that kind of dough, I could use a better lighting setup. Hell, I wish I had any extra dough lol, tough times.

Canon 6D

The quality is phenomenal. Of course the 6D is no comparison the the 5DMIII but I always liked to go with a decent camera body and invest the money into the lens. Hence the T3 before. I sold the body and three lenses then picked up a 16-35 F4. My favorite so far because its perfect for car photography. Looking to add a 35F1.4 for specialty shots but the 28F1.8 covers that for now. |

good info!! I've got a Canon T3i with the lens that it came with. I've been shooting here and there for the past year and got some good shots off with it, but I'm pretty sure the lens is my limiter at this point. My problem is I'm lost when it comes to the equipment. I have no idea what to get as far as upgrading the lens. I usually shoot in 2 different scenarios... 1. Car shots, of course! 2. Active shots at Endurance Sports Races. I have a coaching/training business for athletes and a team that helps raise money for animal shelters So what would be the recommendation for the next lens to buy to further my skills???? thanks!! Great shot! What camera settings you used on this pic if you don't mind to share?
|
I dont mind at all. Not sure if it will help with anything or not but;
F11, Iso 64, shutter was about 125. Used a polarizing filter and took about 3 photos with different rotations. Afterwards a lot of editing lol. |

Haven't posted anything in a while because I haven't shot anything in a while. I did travel up to Raleigh about a month ago to shoot a fully restored Porsche 356 for Mecum Auctions. It was a cool little car, and the restoration job was done very well. It sold this past weekend in Monterey, though I don't know for how much...

Here are some nice pics from my recent vacation to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. They are from the Flume Gorge to be exact.
