the shot overall and especially depth are nice, the subjects' pose is somewhat awkward.

Any of you guys read S3 magazine? You should pick up the next issue. 3 features from yours truly will be in their next issue.

almost looks fake due to too much skin smoothing (i think?)... also, a bit tight for my tastes but i'm no fashion/model photog.

It's off a cell phone shot off of my computer the actual file skin texture is in tact and is not cropped :-)

Actually a beauty dish just left of camera, a little higher than our heads. I was going for the Terry Richardson look.

k20z3 06-10-2012 02:38 AM

Terry Richardson does not use a beauty dish btw. He uses a pop up flash above camera. He used a point and shoot for 70% of his work...

k20z3 06-10-2012 02:39 AM

Camera axis* terry Richardson is by no means a legendary photographer... He's a good business man.

I knew mentioning his name would get that reaction LOL! Photography chat is fun!
Anyway, that shot was a fun experiment. Glad you guys liked it.

Cmike2780 06-10-2012 01:43 PM

Nothing wrong with point and shoots. They are just very limited on the technical side. It's also a matter of artistic interpretation. Some of the best photographs I've seen aren't "technically" perfect.

Havn't really seen much of Richardsons work, but I do remember reading somewhere about how really creepy he was.

Ah, yes... the Charlotte Free accusations.
You probably see his stuff more than you realize. He shoots a lot of celebrities and a lot of his stuff ends up in or on the covers of mainstream magazines.

k20z3 06-11-2012 09:23 AM

He was sexually assaulting his models

hello everyone, the newb here.... i want sharper picts than my kit lens does on my d3100...

is this a good buy? mostly for car and some scenic shots, some portraits, maybe some macro.
it's a nikon 40mm f2.8. appears to get great reviews.

Amazon.com: Nikon 40mm f/2.8G AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras: Electronics

It's a micro/macro lens, great for close up photography, but you'd be better off with a 35mm f/1.8 for the type of shots you take. For portrait, you want something above 50mm to avoid unflattering distortion. It's a great lens nevertheless and will probably pick one up to add to my lineup sooner or later.

I need to start planning ahead so I can actually compose the shot better, but here's the International Space Station from the back of my truck. It's fairly easy to see and get pictures of and happens 2-3 times a night.
