won't happen.. :(

How about a newer RX-8 with better gas mileage? I don't hate the car, but I just think it is way overhyped by the "JDM" crowd.

I have a feeling after I test drive a BRZ, I'd still rather take the RX-8.

Which is really sad since the S15 Silvia is in many ways directly comparable to this car. :shakes head:

No idea on the price of a S15 new though, so that may torpedo my comparison altogether.:ugh2:

if they bring out a new "silvia" 24-27k makes sense

The S15 was never sold in the U.S., but the MSRP of a 1998 240SX was $18,349. Adjusting for inflation that puts it at $35.3K in 2012 dollars

(according to the converter here: Inflation Calculator: Money’s Real Worth Over Time | Coin News)

In contrast, the MSRP of a 2006 300ZX was 37,439 which would make it a 70K car today.

for 18,349 in 1998 I got 25,628....in 2012 dollars. I think you made a typo. The difference is the S14 was much easier to upgrade. Apparently the subi engine in this thing is not very good at handling lots of power.

EDIt: and there was no 2006 300zx, I think you meant 1996 and your calculator puts it at 54K. which isn't bad for a twin turbo.

Yup. some typo or something... funny how I did the same thing twice. lol

25.6k makes sense. The 240sx weighed about the same as the BRZ but only put out 155hp stock.

You forgot to mention how long the stupid 240sx was. It didn't handle very good either, chassis was like a piece of noodle stock.

I am hoping the regular BRZs are mod friendly... we have a lot to look forward too

The American model with the KA was definitely a bit underpowered from the factory when compared to the Japanese model that had the SR and more so by todays engines, but it was still a very solid motor with a lot of potiential.

If I am not misunderstanding that article, it seems to be putting the nail in the coffin for a turbo model BRZ. At least for now. :(

It is pretty though. :happydance:

Rooster89 03-29-2012 01:00 PM

I like the stock wheels.

vo2max99 03-29-2012 10:21 PM

The BR-Z / FR-S look good as long as there's no giant wing attached to the rear of it. Power wise there's no problem because I don't race my daily drivers for a living like some apparently do surprisingly..

As long as its as fun to drive as the reviews say it is it should be good to go despite some folks obsession with numbers. For people who want to void their new car warranties right off the bat with all kinds of mods there are better choices obviously.

The BR-Z / FR-S appear to be designed for people who love to drive vs. for those with specific HP, 1/4 mile goals, etc. As an out of the box entry level RWD sports car it appears they hit it out of the park with the BR-Z / FR-S unless of course you're a numbers person.

Jamaica 03-29-2012 10:26 PM

the STI BRZ looks good. should we wait lol

XwChriswX 03-29-2012 10:26 PM

Mandingo 03-31-2012 11:21 AM

STI version looks great

Heres the Toyota 86 TuRD version:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWcHJ_nr2Zs

It looks really mean. Sounds really plain-Jane though. One exhaust tip per cylinder on an n/a engine :ugh2:

I'll be going with the regular BRZ I believe

kenchan 03-31-2012 03:06 PM

sti has bigger capacity brakes. ok.

no, because we are changing everything up anyway.. might as well get a non-perfomance base.

Nikkolai 03-31-2012 04:52 PM

So, this gets interesting. If they were to make a turbo STi version of the BR-Z, does the FR-S get the same treatment? We know STi's been around for a while for Subaru but TRD's been MIA for a while.

Zaggeron 03-31-2012 04:59 PM

^^ No turbo for the BRZ STI -- from what I've read just a more powerful version of the flat 4.

:bowrofl:, ouch and the car's already starting at 25k. That thing better be a ton of fun to drive.

hrm... I dunno, the "STi" they revealed not to long ago didn't have anything special power wise.. but this new development could be neat

A BRZ STI would benefit from tweaks to the standard 147kW 2.0-litre ‘boxer’ motor that would reportedly peak power rise closer to 180kW. Other potential upgrades include modifications to its variable valve control system, re-developed intake, freer-flowing exhaust, and a raised rev-limit of 7500rpm.

Yea I remember that. I'm still going for the regular BRZ. 200HP is quite enough for my purposes

lol I fixed your post at the same time you did

Nice vid. The BRZ will rule in autocross I bet. They'll likely kick it up a class or two though from where you'd expect a 200hp car
