The LT1 with a possible 460hp has been confirmed.

UNKNOWN_370 03-30-2015 11:07 AM

It's been DECLARED!!! The Camaro WILL BE at LEAST 200lbs lighter!!!

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...EXM6l_cG_HMNMQ

That means a 3400-to 3500lb v6 4 seat coupe
Or a 3500 to 3600lb v8 4 seat coupe.

With 460hp 3600lbs, a well balanced chassis and GM's impeccable suspension tuning as of late... The Camaro as a performance entry is full of win!!!!!

Here's a first drive review of the ATS coupe as a "general reference guide" to see how the alpha chassis promotes an excellent handling platform.

The camaro should supercede the cadillac in handling.

In other words virtually identical styling... I am praying those are false panels on the pre-production. It would have been nice if they modernized the 70-81 camaro. That was an awesome bodystyle that would have been very aerodynamic as a modern reiteration. 82-92 would have been better.

(Thes thoughts based on THE MUSCLE group can't get out the past. Lol.)

Yup, the Knight Rider era Camaro/Firebird aka the C3, was the first to have independent rear suspension.

I think the C6 silhouette is somewhat reminiscent of the C3

I've never seen a pre 2010 Camaro with IRS.

This would have been a sweet look...

You would be mistaken, because the camaro has been IRS since 1982.

I had a 1994 Pontiac Firebird Formula (same as a Camaro) and there was no IRS. Solid axle all the way...

its an independent leaf spring suspension. More advanced than mustangs live axle. there is a long single brace under the car that may look like a live axle but the leaf springs on the wheels move indepently.

IRS came later but they werent live axles after the C2 camaro.

2010 was the first year a Camaro had IRS...trust me.
Fifth Generation (2010-Present)

After eight years of flying the Chevy flag at half-mast, Camaro enthusiasts had their prayers answered when Chevrolet brought back its road burner for 2010. Initially available only as a coupe in base LS, midlevel LT and V8-powered SS models, this is without a doubt the best Camaro to date. The retro styling borrows shamelessly from the 1969 Camaro, down to the cowl-induction-style hood, Coke bottle profile, cross-hatch grille and rear-quarter gills. Yet it's not a complete knock-off, as the 2010 has a huskier stance and is noticeably thicker in the rear haunches. The cockpit is mostly modern, with a few old-school touches thrown in such as a quartet of gauges located down low in front of the gearshifter. The latter isn't exactly an ergonomic success, but they pay homage to the optional setup of the late '60s. The available RS package (essentially an appearance package) adds bigger (20-inch) wheels, a rear spoiler, HID headlights and smoked taillights.

Unlike before, getting a V6 Camaro doesn't mean "plenty of show but not so much go." The LS and LT come packing 304 hp via a direct-injected, 3.6-liter V6. It also has a six-speed manual transmission (six-speed automatic optional), disc brakes all around, an independent rear suspension (a Camaro first) and 18-inch wheels. At a base price of around $23,000, the entry-level Camaro offers a heavy dose of performance that's light on the wallet. With 0-to-60 and quarter-mile times of 6.0 and 14.2 seconds, respectively, these are seriously rapid cars.

The big-dog SS has a 6.2-liter V8 with either 426 hp (with six-speed manual) or 400 hp (with six-speed automatic) as well as meatier Brembo disc brakes. With the ability to leap to 60 mph in 5 seconds and tear down the quarter-mile in 13 seconds flat, the SS will show its taillights to virtually any Camaro that came before, perhaps even the super rare ZL-1 of 1969. And in terms of unraveling a twisty road, the latest Camaro has no peer with its elders, thanks to a finely balanced and tuned chassis, the aforementioned independent rear end and quick, communicative steering.

Where does it say IRS? rear coil suspension doesn't mean IRS...I would take it from car guys that have had these cars it didn't have IRS in the 80's, or the 90's. 2010 was the first year for IRS.

I wish they would have made that -- I like it much better.

Dude do you know what a IRS is? "C" cars like the C2, C3 you are talking about are Corvettes, they had IRS, the Camaro did NOT.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/98-99-00-01-...-/310347942193 That's a Solid axle...

you're right... leaf suspension is not technologically the IRS but its not as crude as live axle either. for all intents, it is an independent suspension though. But not as advanced as the 4 links and above IRS of today.

I stand corrected bro... the independent leaf suspension was up front and the camaro had the live axle in the back.

It was a coil up front...leaf in the rear, later went to a coil in the back ('82) and a Macpherson strut in the front, I believe '82 also.
