2015 wrx sti sighting!

Saw this pull into my church parking lot this morning. I didn't get a chance to ask the guy about it as I was working with the parking team, but I'm assuming he works for Subaru in some fashion. He had his wife and kids with him..just kind of weird. I was thinking "that's not even out yet?!" Illinois Manufacturer plates, but I'm in Jacksonville FL.

I was able to take some pictures after I was done helping:

The glare was really bad, which made it tough to get interior shots, but I think the outside of these things look absolutely fantastic!! The interior is definitely a step up compared to the prior WRX/STi, but still noting to write home about.

I thought it was really cool to see one, but really random? Anyone have any idea why he would be hauling around his family to church? Testing?

That wing is huge, it's bigger then the Civic :icon14:

Jasonle 03-02-2014 04:55 PM

Nice!

Z-Girl 12 03-02-2014 09:52 PM

Interior definitely looks better than precious, subaru actually listened to the consumers woohoot!!! Nice find by the way OP.

DEpointfive0 03-02-2014 09:56 PM

Looks like a Civic

shadoquad 03-02-2014 09:59 PM

It's cool, although I hope they'll change their mind and release a hatch version of it.

Admittedly, I am biased.

It's always been functional though.

/Angelo350Z/ 03-02-2014 10:14 PM

Is it just me, or does the front look like an Evo X? That's a giant wing BTW.

synolimit 03-02-2014 10:27 PM

It does.

dP3NGU1N 03-02-2014 10:31 PM

yes the front has been compared to the evo quite a lot actually.

zefaulter 03-02-2014 11:54 PM

Looks nice on the outside, inside is horribly depressing

RICAN 03-03-2014 01:48 AM

the front end looks like a evo but meaner!!....

Jordo! 03-03-2014 02:58 AM

It's nice, but still has has too many doors for my liking...

Why. oh, why don't they bring back the two-door version. There was one once upon a time.

Firebase99 03-03-2014 05:44 AM

Wow, I fricking hate it. That is one ugly car!! That wing, i dont care how functional it is, is a complete joke!! Its a fuc*ing park bench!! I would not caught be dead in that!! The interior...its like 1987. $35K to start for this turd? Its not even a polished turd!! Horrible.

I didn't buy an sti for looks or a pretty interior. I don't think that many people do. For me, it's the versatility and amazing handling in all conditions. The base wrx is a much bigger bargain, but I doubt looks are a big concern for wrx/sti buyers.

I agree, to a point, but that wing is...its a ricers wet dream. Thats the best Subaru could do? Really? OMG. I dont care if this eat Veyrons for breakfast for $35K, it just has that "Goofball, assh*le, punk" look behind the wheel. No bueno!!

That isn't new, though. These cars have always looked "boy racer"

But I just drove my performance car in four inches of packed snow with two labradors in tow. Looks be damned, it's a lot of car for money.

But I do prefer the hatch, in part due to the wing.

bigaudiofanat 03-03-2014 09:26 AM

Love that blue and gold combo. But needs to be a hatch

saber 03-03-2014 10:38 AM

why oh why, subaru, do you not give us a hatch version :(

c41006 03-03-2014 10:52 AM

pretty nice but that might be one of the biggest wings I've ever seen

kenchan 03-03-2014 01:50 PM

the f-'s with that stupid arse rear wing? thought by now ricors would've graduated from that crap. :ugh:

other then that it looks fairly normal... nothing really exciting. could be the camera.
i also agree about the interior. :ugh: depressing.

i dont like that bus steering wheel angle... either. :ugh:

so i guess :ugh2: for me. but thanks for sharing op!

DCNISMO 03-03-2014 05:49 PM

Manufacturer plate…….dead give away. I see that in the DC area with Audis who have their HQ in Herndon. At times they get cars we never get here and they drive them around the DC area to tease people.

XiP 03-03-2014 06:07 PM

do these handle better than SUVs like jeeps and 4runners/land cruisers in inclement weather and off roading/rock climbing? i may consider one for my next DD

e: assuming you'd have to lift it like this. looks pretty cool

xip- isn't the forester suppose to fill that void? not sure.

i use to own a new 06 legacy wagon back in the day. was nice... other than the fact that it had all sorts of warranty issues on that pos. :shakes head: and my local subaru dealer being an arse did not help the situation either.

ElVee 03-04-2014 12:22 PM

I do like it, though the blue with gold wheels will always look like a youngster's car to me.

The wing is a bit much, admittedly. Since the Evo's future is up in the air and they're already starting to copy the front end, why not bring in a similar wing like the Evo's? So perfect.

Put that in silver or some other color with some aggressive but grown-up wheels, and that car is tight. People either like it or hate it, and I happen to actually like its look.

Z370Z011 03-04-2014 01:01 PM

LOVE IT!... the color that is, because everything else :wtf2:

Chuck33079 03-04-2014 01:08 PM

Swap trunks with a wingless WRX and pick up a set of silver wheels and I'll take one.

oh yeah i think so. i don't keep up with subarus, probably should take a look at their whole lineup :)

Chuck33079 03-04-2014 01:35 PM

I wonder if they've finally fixed the crap stock tune so it doesn't break ringlands bone stock.

Haboob 03-04-2014 03:35 PM

I prefer the sedan look over the hatch in the previous models. This one though, :barf: all the way around.

However, there's not much of a need for their versatility where I am, so piss off! It's two-doors and RWD all day! :stirthepot:

Yes, but even if I wasn't, I'd still only need a two-seater car. :tiphat:

:icon18: oh, j00 guys.

Well, I've got family and friends, I have dogs, and I have a need to tote things around, and I live in an area where it snows. Plus I wanted it to be fast. That's why I have my STI.

When summer approaches, I have my Z06 for everything else :yum:

And there's nothing really better or worse about this new STi, that I can tell, except that I think it's worse that it doesn't come with a hatch option (for the time being). If it ever does come as a hatch, maybe I'll trade up in a few years. Many of the complaints in here are the same complaints I've always heard about STi's... "too many doors", "big wing", "bland interior", "seating position isn't as sporty"... The only new complaint I've heard is that it looks more like an Evo, which I agree is the case, although not necessarily a bad thing.

Chuck33079 03-06-2014 07:03 AM

You can tell who's never gotten to flog an STi here by some of these comments. They're so much fun to throw around. The only knock on the current ones (besides the wing) is that the stock tune is way too lean during spoolup and they like to crack ringlands. Swap the wing with a WRX owner for cash, use the cash to buy an accessport. Both problems solved.

I've been doing quite a lot of research on the new STi, and what they have done to the chassis is amazingly impressive. For any of you who are in the market for a new 30-40K car, there is a very lengthy video of the STi press release presentation where they go over all the new changes.

I thought about listing all the changes they made to the chassis but that would take awhile, lets just say its very extensive. Engine mods are only limited to a new tune which improves throttle response (a lot) and turbo lag (a bit). Really reworked interior with even the smallest details are worked out and optimized (seating position, luggage compartments, door openings, ect... Base model comes with IMO much nicer wheels - in black, and can be bought without negotiating for $1000 below invoice ($31,000 without delivery).

However, I'm gonna hold out for a few years until they update the engine with direct injection, which will more than likely be coupled with twinscrool turbo and equal length headers. Cross shopping with a M235i (which is farrrrrr more expensive, about 50K with very limited options) but I want something with more differences than my 911. I don't think there's many other alternatives for what the STi is trying to do at its price point. Golf R is too lame, Evo is too old (and extremely unreliable from my experience, oh and you thought the subie interior is bad??)

Yeah, it's a hell of a car. It's a little irritating thay haven't touched the motor since what, 2007? Hopefully the new tune fixed the ringland issue. I'm sure I'll pick up another at some point. A torquey AWD car is a hoot to throw around.

Footloose301 03-07-2014 05:37 AM

I got to see a brand new black WRX on the road the other day. Unfortunately it was going in the opposite direction and couldn't take a pic in time, but I thought it looked great. LED's drew my attention to the car. I've always loved the Subaru's even thought I've never owned one.

I drove a 2011 STI and liked it but the previous driver had beaten up the inside of the fenders and such with the stupidass "hellaflush" crap and this made me strengthen my opinion about only buying a new car, so I didn't pull the trigger. The STI was noticeably slower than the Z from a 40 roll that I was doing on the test drive.

I've been waiting to see what Subaru had come out with and I'm on the fence. It seems every refresh the wing gets larger. Nonetheless I hate the blue and gold color scheme because it is too boy racer. I will heavily consider a black or grey STI in the near future and depending on how I feel, I might remove the wing. Also, I'd definitely want an extra 100hp and I guess we'll see how people on the subaru forums achieve it without blowing it up.
